This is a nicely appointed hotel. There were several stellar things and a few not so appealing experiences we had.
Luke, the bellman who helped us with our luggage is A+: professional, friendly, beyond competent.
This hotel allows dogs for a $95 fee. Another very nice touch.
The large pool and pool area, excellent.
Common areas of the hotel were clean.
Parking was free.
The not so fun:
Our room. It was booked as “partial ocean view”. This was true. We could see the ocean to the far left. We were also right over the large parking lot. And the kitchen area. Many times the noise level was very loud, car horns, beeps, and other noises. Some workers were almost always outside talking loudly and doing other things. Overall it was a bit chaotic. Westin is now part of the Marriot rewards program in which we are gold members. Generally if a nicer room is available, we are upgraded and we certainly understand that the first night of our stay was fully booked. The front desk staff supposedly checked for the remaining two nights and no other room was available. However, the hotel was significantly less populated after the first night.
My husband was quite unhappy with housekeeping. The room wasn’t too clean when we checked in including an item left from previous guest(s), a used lavender “gift”. It actually was a folder with the balm removed. Housekeeping came very late, toilet tissue wasn’t replenished, requests for extra towels wasn’t honored until very late at night, after 3 calls. Sheets were never changed. Bare minimum was done.
On the positive side, the housekeeping staff I saw in the hall were exceedingly polite and friendly.
A small thing is since we had a dog, a package of items were to be delivered or given at check in including dog bowls, mat, sign for the door indicating there was a dog present.
Another minor thing is that a fee of $20 is charged each day. It does not cover beach chair and umbrella set up as many hotels do. It covered a free shuttle and internet as well as staff making reservations for guests for tennis and golf.
Finally, when asked how our stay was a checkout, my husband mentioned his disappointment with housekeeping. No follow up questions were asked as to what could have been better.
All in all, we greatly enjoyed our first trip to Jekyll Island. We probably wouldn’t stay at Westin again.
Very nice hotel. Great experience when you first enter the lobby. The new Jacuzzi and Pool area is very nice. Customers service was my favorite part of the hotel. Angelica at the front desk was so nice and provided excellent service going above and beyond to explore upgrades for me and my family
