WALK OUT OF YOUR ROOM TO THE POOL AND BEACH
by Hopkinsesq@aol.com
The Reef Resort in Grand Cayman is perfect for a family vacation. All rooms are ocean view and within seconds of the 2 pools on the property. The outdoor restaurant and bar are centrally located. You can actually sit on the beach and keep an ... more eye on your children as they run from the beach to the pools and into the rooms for a snack. The rooms are clean and well equipped. We rented two rooms. One room had a living, room, dining area, full size kitchen, bathroom, 1 bedroom with a king bed, 2 fold-down beds in the living room, and a private covered patio with lounge chairs, table and chairs. The other room adjoining room was a smaller room with a king size bed, jacuzzi, mini-kitchen and bathroom and private covered patio. The ocean was straight ahead, the pool about 100 feet to the right and the bar about the same distance on the left. The hotel is located on the tranquil East End which is the other side of the island from the large resorts located on Seven Mile Beach. At the Reef Resort, you can opt for cooking in the rooms, cooking on the grills located throughout the complex, the all inclusive plan, or dining out. There is a grocery store within walking distance and a few a short car ride away. We opted for breakfast on our own, lunch either on our own or at the hotel or nearby resorts within walking distance and dinner was mostly out with a few meals at the resort. One pool sports several areas, some shallow for the small children, a jacuzzi, and a small waterfall and dolphin statue. The other pool is a larger pool with a jacuzzi and a pavilion for shade. Our two daughters ages 9 and 7 enjoyed trying the different pools and the ocean, sitting at the bar for smoothies, eating meals outside, and the live entertainment and dancing in the evenings.

Activities abound on the island for children. You would want to rent a car to drive to the attractions on Grand Cayman. The turtle farm is a must see. Stingray City was an experience of a lifetime - a trip on a catamaran out to the sandbar where you could stand and interact with the stingrays; trips are safe and well run. My older daughter and I took a horseback ride along the beach and rode the horses in the water. The horses were actually swimming with us on top! We went to the Seven Mile Beach area for one day and explored the resorts and shops. Another day we went to the botanical gardens. All in all, the Reef Resort was the perfect vacation for those who want a more relaxed informal taste of Grand Cayman with all the conveniences one could ask for.
