Overview

Located in downtown Springfield, Illinois, the Wyndham City Centre is ideally situated within walking distance to the state capital building and several President Abraham Lincoln attractions like his home and museum. This large circular-shaped hotel is refined, yet comfortable and modern without forgetting its history.

The large suites can easily accommodate families and as the tallest building in Springfield, it provides excellent views of downtown. Kids will love playing in the indoor pool and parents will love grabbing a drink at the Pinnacle Club. There are two onsite restaurants that serve breakfast, lunch and dinner in both casual and business casual settings, and the only Starbucks in downtown can be accessed through the lobby.

Room Information

Find the Best Price for Your Stay

The guestrooms and suites all feature excellent views of downtown Springfield and with the circular hallways, it's hard to lose your way. Rollaway beds and Pack 'n Plays are available at no cost, along with several different combinations of connecting rooms. A sound machine can also be provided for guests.

Lincoln Suite
As Abraham Lincoln was our 16th president, it's only fitting that his suite would be located on the 16th floor at the Wyndham. It's easy to spot Lincoln's home down below, too. The two-bedroom suite, which can accommodate six people, can be one bedroom if needed and features a refrigerator and microwave in the kitchenette. Each bedroom has a bathroom, which features a bathtub. There is a large living room with a sofa and retro chairs and and there are three televisions (one in each room). Situated behind a large dining table is a colorful, Andy Warhol type-mural of Lincoln, too.

Suites
A kitchen can be found in the suites with a refrigerator, full oven and stove. However, full cookware and utensils are not provided. The large living room features a sofa and dining table and the separate bedroom features queen or king beds. The bathrooms do not include a bathtub in the suites.

Guestrooms
The pie-shaped guestrooms feature a king or two queen beds and a coffee maker. There is no mini-fridge or microwave in the guestrooms, but guests can request one. Bathtubs can also be found in the bathrooms.

A Property that is truly needing to be renovated

by Bruce428

I am surprised! For alledgedly a fine downtown Springfield IL Hotel, they truly need to get this place renovated ASAP. It almost looks dirty. In fact, we brought our grandson to the indoor poor and after seeing the bandaids on the ground, dirty wanter, etc.; we left the pool area. The rooms and bathrooms truly need to be renovated. The pillows are not even standard sized pillows and the mattresses are old and lumpy. A disappointment.

Get it together

by Vacationer792274

Ms Reasoner and Bob in A/V are the best employees in the hotel. Their service and professionalism is the only reason we stayed. Our stay It’s the little things, ie cobwebs, blown lightbulbs, falling wallpaper, the crackling sounds of the building, the tub stopped up erroneous charges, made for an unpleasant visit.

Family Activities

Pool
Families will love to spend some time at the medium-size indoor, heated pool with a depth from 3 to 5 feet. Chairs and small tables surround the pool and pool towels are provided. There is a full men's and women's locker room just off the pool area with bathrooms. The pool is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The Grille at City Centre
This family-friendly restaurant located off the lobby is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Families will find a full breakfast menu of eggs, bacon, yogurt and more, and lunch features seven different soups daily. Highchairs are available. Breakfast begins at 6:30 a.m. and dinner ends at 10 p.m.

Nick and Nino's Penthouse Steakhouse
This penthouse steakhouse, which is open to the public, offers finer dining for dinner with an amazing view of downtown Springfield. The lobster bisque, 50-day dry aged steak and surf and turf are some of the popular menu items. Children are welcome and there is a kids' menu available. Kids will also love to order dessert from the "dessert iPad."

Reservations are suggested for Nick and Nino's, which is open from 5:30 to 10 p.m. It's closed on Sunday and Monday. Dress is business casual.

Planning & Tips

All About the Extras
Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi is free in guestrooms and public spaces.

Parking
There is a parking fee for the nearby covered garage, which is owned by the city, not the hotel.

Shops and Starbucks
On the lower lobby level, guests will find several shops, hair and nail salons, a barber shop, gift shop, men's clothing store and a Starbucks -- each with direct access from inside the hotel.

Fitness Center
The small fitness center features cardio and weight machines and is open 24 hours. Water, earbuds and gym towels are provided.

The Art of Smart Timing
When children are off from school for spring break or the summer, the Wyndham can be a bit busier. But it can be at its busiest in the spring when the state legislators are in session, as the State Capitol building is only a few blocks away.

Getting There
The St. Louis International Airport is about an hour and 45 minutes from the Wyndham and Chicago O'Hare International Airport is about three hours. Smaller airports, Central Illinois Regional Airport in Bloomington is about an hour and 15 minutes and Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport is about 10 minutes away.

Getting Around
If you plan to stay in downtown Springfield for much of your trip, a rental car is not entirely necessary, but could be a good idea. Several things to do and restaurants are within walking distance, but if you want to venture a few blocks outside of the city limits, a car rental is necessary.

Additionally, a complimentary shuttle will take guests to the airport or train station.

For Mom and Dad
The Pinnacle Club
This cool cocktail lounge is a great place for adults to begin or end an evening. The modern gray décor features excellent views of the state capital building and a player piano (or live pianist on Thursdays) will surely entertain guests. Cocktails, desserts and appetizers are served from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
