This past Spring my parents were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary by taking my family (husband and two daughters) and brother and friend on a Caribbean cruise! Our departure was from San Juan, so we flew in two days ahead to avoid feeling
more +rushed. We spent two nights at the Intercontinental San Juan - and one more night on our return from the cruise - and it was one of the best hotels we have enjoyed in a long time!
The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful - both in terms of helping us find nearby places to explore and to dine, as well as in attending to details of our stay! The children absolutely fell in love with this hotel - from the lobby, you walk through a set of double doors, onto an open veranda that leads you through a tropical paradise, pool, and onto the gorgeous beach! The flowers, birds, and hidden pathways entranced my two girls who are at that perfect age for fantasy and adventure!
The hotel had a handout weekly calendar available in the lobby, listing various activities for kids for every day that week, including games, movies, and crafts. We took advantage of one of the movies (held in an open patio area that was lovely) and the craft of making their own personalized Tshirts - my one daughter made hers to say "I )heart) San Juan - and wore it in school when she got home!
The hotel also made you feel extremely safe - they gave everyone colored wristbands near the pool area - and they made sure anyone coming back from the beach had one on! The girls had fun stopping at the jewelry stands along the beach - one was set up just outside our hotel. They spent a lot of time in the pool - where the water bar with stools right in the water thrilled them - we ordered them non-alcoholic fruit smoothies and they felt quite special!
The hotel was a great spot to start our vacation - made us think about returning again to spend the whole vacation in San Juan!
