If you don’t need to be in the center of it all, the Yosemite View Lodge, just minutes from the park’s entrance, is an ideal alternative. Unlike hotels in the park, the rooms here are air conditioned and tend to offer a bit more for your money. Accommodations are clean and modern, and the hotel grounds are extensive and include a swimming pool for the kids, two restaurants and a large gift shop. Great place to stay, be wary of overcharging!

So we stayed here as part of a recent trip. We stayed for 2 nights and booked a riverview room. The rooms are large, have a kitchen are which has a coffee maker, toaster, microwave, hob and all of the pans, plates, cutlery etc. It also has a large fireplace and a jacuzzi bath with double shower in the bathroom.

The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The hotel had pools, although extremely cold, and spas around the pools which were really hot, and very noisy.

There is a shop on site which is pricey but we'll stocked. There is a pizza place and a restaurant. We ordered chips from the pizza place which were nice but that is all we ordered. We stopped at a Walmart on the way from San Fran and brought food that we cooked ourselves.

The hotel is genuinely a great place to stay, it is close to the main park and has everything you need and the surroundings are stunning. My only gripe is they charged us twice on our card for an extra night. When we booked the room we had to pay 1 nights deposit, this can off my card and I had confirmation. When we checked out they wanted to charge for the full 2 nights. When questioned they said I never paid even though I had proof. We were arguing back and forth and as we had an 8 hour drive to Vegas we paid for both nights and went.

When I got home I checked with my card supplier who confirmed it had been paid and the day YVL got the money. Got all the evidence together and sent it to the manager. He replied saying they didn't take the money and basically didn't matter with the evidence. I got more statements and other details and emailed back. He didnt reply, I even called several times from the UK and was told the manager was in that day and would contact me, he never did.

We then raised a dispute with the card company and then if by magic I get a mail from the YVL manager saying they had intact received the payment and would refund the night back. We are still out of pocket due to extra currency conversion charges, phone calls etc. The apology was "sorry for the confusion" and that was it.

The place itself is ideal for Yosemite but like I said make sure they don't try to rip you off.

Ideal stay for staying near Yosemite

Stayed here as part of a package we booked, Hotel was close to yosemite, views of the river and outside were fab. Rooms were fine, spacious and done the job for us. Drawbacks were that you can hear everything outside so if you are a light sleeper room near the river wouldnt suit. There are two restaurants on site, both are dear enough for what you get we got a large pizza, medium pizza and two beers and it was $60. There is a shop inside whic was handy for grabbing stuff for breakfast and on the road.

If you are only stopping by for one night its a grand hotel for an over night visit. Lobby area is cute but rooms do need a bit of an upgrade.
