Overview

The Westin Nova Scotian is an AAA Four Diamond hotel in Nova Scotia’s capital city of Halifax, featuring three dining options and the Westin’s Kids Eat Well Menu; an indoor pool; and complimentary Wi-Fi. If your family frequents Westin Hotels & Resorts, you’ll find this property to be less luxurious than most — something to consider if that’s important for your family vacation.

While it’s not our first pick for a hotel in Halifax, its location — just steps from Halifax Harbour — makes it a worthy choice for most travelers. The hotel is within walking distance of the Halifax Harbourfront Boardwalk, the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic (famous for its unique Titanic artifacts), and ample opportunities to get out on the water — including the always popular Harbour Hopper Tours. It’s also convenient for those traveling by Via Rail Canada, with a train stop just steps away from the hotel.

Find the Best Price for Your Stay

The Westin Nova Scotian has 301 nonsmoking guestrooms and suites, all of which are equipped with coffeemakers (with Starbucks coffee), safes, radio alarm clocks, irons and ironing boards, and hairdryers. Flat-screen TVs (32 inches) and work desks are also included, as is a port for electronic devices, with two outlets and two USB ports. Mini-bars are also featured in most rooms. Shower/tub combos, bathrobes and Westin's signature White Tea toiletries are standard throughout the hotel.

Westin Heavenly Cribs are available free of charge for families traveling with infants. Rollaway beds are also available (for a fee).

Traditional Guest Room
Traditional Guest Rooms are small (200 to 200 square feet), though typical for a city hotel. These rooms have one king, one queen, or two double beds, all equipped with Westin's signature Heavenly mattresses. Traditional Guest Rooms offer views of other city buildings.

Harbor View Guest Room
Harbor View Guest Rooms feature the same amenities as the Traditional Guest Rooms, with the addition of views of Halifax Harbour.

Studio Suite
The Studio Suite offers more space than the guestrooms, with a living area, large bathroom with Jacuzzi, and a balcony overlooking the city. However, it comes with one king bed only, so it's best for grandparents or other relatives traveling with extended family.

Executive Crown Suite
The Executive Crown Suite is a nice space to rent for family gatherings of up to 25 people. It features a full bar, plenty of lounge space, and even live music on request! Only two people can sleep in the room, however (with one king bed).

Worst stay of my life (very traumatizing). Stay away if you need to sleep!

by albn7

I am a frequent business traveler and spend much of my life in hotels. I always carry earplugs but this time they were simply insufficient.

This stay was by far one of the worst and most traumatic stays of my life.

While the staff is very nice and the rooms are fully renovated and very clean, the walls are paper thin and the inside noise travels through multiple floors. Even water being flushed from upstairs gets very loud. Let alone doors slamming every 5 min and teenagers running from elevators to their rooms giggling.

Even though I was told there were a volleyball tournament and that might be the reason for the shenanigans, they did not stop after the said “kids” checked out.

Feels like the building is made of wood frame without acoustic insulation inside the walls. A door being slammed far away has its loud noise carried tens of meters and sounds like the louse is inside the room. You can clearly hear the next door neighbors using their coffee maker or hanging their clothes.

I spent three nights and had an aggregate amount of sleep that did not exceed 2 hours among all three days.

I raised this up to staff and they were very sympathetic, and even moved me to a different room. But it didn’t help.

Considering the price of this hotel, this is a huge slap on the face and an insult. As I said before, I am a very regular business traveler and I can’t recall any experience remotely as bad as this one. Perhaps if you travelling just to party very hard, your experience may be better. But, if you need to sleep, stay away!

It was a very traumatizing experience and I hope never to have to come back to Halifax. 3 days with zero sleep being startled every 5 min was a truly unique experience.

Great staff!

I only stayed one night but I experienced great service from multiple members of staff. Nothing was too much trouble! Shout out to Brogdan (maybe incorrect spelling?) who works at the buffet he was so sweet! Also Tracy I think it is who does room service etc. What an absolute doll! I will definitely recommend this hotel to everyone.
