Reviews

Food is incredible and Staff are amazing!!!!

by lennoncooper

I am currently staying at the Aqua Suites and don’t usually write reviews but felt the need to after dinner tonight. Tonight was barbecue night and the Iberian pork, burgers and sausages were outstanding. I have to give amazing credit to the chef Paul and his amazing team as the food was cooked to perfection and they are so accommodating. I wish I could have Paul be my personal cook and fly him back to Ireland. Every night the food is something I look forward to and enjoying time with the lovely staff there who would bend over backwards for you. I have been here more than 4 times and keep returning each year for the amazing food, service, friendly staff and gorgeous rooms. I would recommend anyone to come here to stay. The only problem is you will keep coming back.

Nice stay but food not for us

by Julie H

We stayed for 10 nights and when we arrived there was a bit of a misunderstanding about the room but this was eventually sorted and we were given a nice room in a good position. The staff on the whole are as good as everyone says, reception staff would usually greet you as you came in and out. There was one dark haired chap on reception who never fails to greet you with a friendly smile and by name as well, impressive! He is a definite asset. The waiting staff tried hard and the barman Zorvan is attentive and friendly. Johnny Mack does his best to get everyone involved in the various evening activities.
The rooms are kept clean, fresh towels and water everyday. This is a family resort and as a mature couple the children running around the bar in the evening killed the vibe for us. We usually headed out to one of the bars down the road.
The breakfasts were very good, a wide selection of fresh fruit and juices and a cooked breakfast delivered to the table. I would like to suggest that tea or coffee and perhaps toast brought to the table would make it even more relaxing.
The main meals were for us a disappointment. There is a bbq every Tuesday and the beef in particular was inedible. Already roasted beef is slung on the grill and seared within an inch of its life until it becomes like a piece of shoe leather. The burgers were undercooked and the accompanying Canarian potatoes with sauce just weren’t very nice. My plate ended up almost untouched but was removed without comment. The waiting staff at no point asked whether we enjoyed the food. One night there was curry on the menu, and the choice was chicken tikka masala or prawn tikka masala, and since there are only ever 4 choices this considerably narrowed the choice. The actual curry was okay as long as you didn’t expect to taste any spices.
Our last meal was particularly bad, pork in masala sauce. The vegetables and potatoes were nice but the 4 tiny strips of pork could easily have been leftovers from the bbq, tough and overcooked. My husband had the chimichangas which he said was mostly rice and hardly any chicken.
According to the reviews everyone seems to love the food here, so clearly we are in the minority. The saving grace for us was being able to use Sassi's and Emma’s Mexican, which we did on a number of occasions. The food in both was superior for us in every way despite the walk to the old town, which takes about 40 minutes.
It was difficult to write this review and I do not take pleasure in it but I felt it was important to give my honest opinion re our stay. The hotel do not provide a feedback form or solicit feedback after meals. I was in two minds how to score as on the whole we had nothing to complain about aside from the meals, which are reasonable pub grub at best. However to score a 3 seemed unfair as it is certainly better than average, so I scored a 4.
