Cork City Gaol

Attraction

Cork City Gaol

Convent Avenue, Sunday's Well, Cork

One of the most unusual attractions in the city, the Cork City Gaol takes visitors back in time to explore a former 19th century prison. Families can wander through the jail and its wings decorated with lifelike figures, visit furnished cells and read notes scribbled on the walls by former inmates.

They’ll also learn about the history of the prison, social life and politics of the era, and its famous prisoners and executions. You’ll learn the prison was once used as a radio station, too.

Visitors can explore on their own or opt for the audio tour. Family tickets are available (two adults and up to four children).
