Loyalty Doesn’t Matter

by capemayniac

My husband and I were regular customers of this hotel on our frequent visits to Cape May. We have routinely recommended it to family and friends, who have also stayed at this property. I would normally be writing a good review, but after 18 years of being a regular customer and knowing the owner on a first name basis, we are finished because our loyalty means nothing. This year we were booked for our usual fall stay during the same week in our same room. We never canceled in all our years of visiting. This year my father became very ill and it was apparent that we were spending his last days with him in the hospital. It was a week before our scheduled reservation. My husband called the Avondale and explained the situation to staff who knew we were regular customers. I understand the need for cancellation policies, but we had no choice. We were so surprised when we were charged a fee of $160 because we canceled our reservation. Our years of loyalty meant absolutely nothing and we were treated like strangers. My father passed away, but to the Avondale I guess they still expect you to go on vacation. We will never stay there again because greed trumps loyalty and money rules over kindness and sympathy. By the way, we were able to get to Cape May a few days in October. We stayed at another hotel which was priced more reasonably and had many more amenities. So now we will be loyal customers elsewhere.

Not Suitablee for the Handicapped

by Family1227

My husband and I have gone there for the last 3 years. The first 2 years were very nice and the room was well set up for handicapped people. I have numerous disabilities but mostly in my legs and back. This year we reserved our room early to be sure to have an acceptable room. We were informed that we had the same room as the past 2 years. When we arrived on September 30th we were told our usual room was unavailable. The room they put us in was not suitable for a handicap person to even use the bathroom. Upon checking out when we told them they said oh well it was not noted. Not only very rude but nasty. It was bad enough that there are more rooms than parking spaces, this room had no outlets to charge phone except by the sink. This is our last visit to this hotel. Luckily i did not hurt myself trying to get clean in this poorly designed bathroom.
