Excellent Week

by beachturtle80

We loved our week at Banyan Bay Suites last week. It was our first time in Belize and we were so delighted by the charm and hospitality of San Pedro and everyone we encountered. The accommodations were spotless and we had everything that we could have possibly needed. All of the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. My husband was also very impressed with the diving (on-site company also made it extremely easy and convenient.) While my husband was swimming with sharks one day (really!), I enjoyed a fabulous massage at the spa. Thank you, Veronica! The food was excellent too--we are often nervous to stay at hotels that only offer one restaurant but we were really impressed with how great the food was at Pier 366. We ventured into town a few nights for dinner (great dinners at Hidden Treasure and Paco Picasso) but easily could have eaten every night at Pier 366. We also had a couple of breakfasts at The Baker, a sweet bakery next to Banyan Bay--cinnamon rolls are a MUST!!

While we absolutely would recommend Banyan Bay Suites, we do have to comment on the sargassum/seaweed issue. Banyan Bay staff worked tirelessly to keep it off the beautiful beach on their property but the smell from other properties close by was extremely noxious at times. We found other ways to enjoy the ocean by diving/snorkeling on day sails and also rented a golf cart to drive out to Secret Beach to enjoy the clear-as-glass waters on that side of the island.

First time on the island

Although the pool area was beautiful, we were pleased the staff was able to get us a beach front room. And the room was great. Rather simple in decor but inviting just the same. We spent evenings on the balcony enjoying the ocean.

The front desk staff was friendly and helpful. The restaurant was fabulous. Food was delicious and eye appealing.

As vacations go, we found a great balance of activity and leisure. Lazy mornings and evenings on the balcony; kayaking, sailing, shopping in the afternoon; a water taxi to Caye Caulker; and a day exploring the island by golf cart.

We'll definitely be back for another visit.
