Reviews

Just missed out on 5 stars

by KevanH222

We had a week all-inclusive at Caretta beach recently and it is not what some of the reviews on here would have you believe.
It was very quiet when we were there, certainly down to the fact it was only 2 weeks since the Thomas Cook collapse, so they will have lost a lot of custom, sadly.
The room was very clean and tidy, with maid service every day, except Tuesdays, which is their day off.
All staff were extremely pleasant and helpful anytime we needed them, and couldn't fault any of them even slightly. Especially when my daughter left my hand luggage in the taxi we arrived in! Around £400 of equipment in it, tablet, aftershave, sunglasses, power bank (and car keys, which was a panic!) Reception tried to phone and track it down, and our very honest taxi driver did turn up with it a little later, with everything intact. Grateful doesn't even begin to describe how I felt!
Food was excellent, nice variety with only a handful of dishes there every meal time. Thankfully, the spaghetti bolognese was one, which was superb. The wine in the restaurant did taste a bit watery during 1 meal time, but the beer and the cocktail at the reception area bar are certainly not watered down, like some claim.
There are several unofficial hotel cats, which my kids absolutely loved and enjoyed petting as they are all very friendly. The tourists seem to feed them often.
We did have a 4.5 earthquake on our first night, which woke us with a start, but these are apparently very common and a quite a cool thing to witness. They are not strong enough to damage the buildings in any way.
We did walk to the beach one day, as we missed the free shuttle, and it is a very nice sandy beach with clean water.

Now, here is where the hotel lost a star. There was a massive wasp problem when we were there. They are everywhere (apart from in the room and restaurant), and this did detract from my enjoyment of the hotel.
Having said that, I have a major wasp phobia, and they are much less aggressive than UK wasps. They are interested in anything sweet you have, but if you guide them away, they eventually take the hint.
The hotel really need to get someone in to get rid of them though, seeing as you're there to relax which wasn't always possible due to the number of wasps. They don't seem to have an interest in the beer, so I stuck to drinking it at poolside.

All in all, don't be put off by any of the poorer reviews here. I would happily return here for a future holiday.

Great holiday for the price!

Traveled as two friends in our twenties and had a fantastic week at this hotel!
The travel from the airport is 5 minutes and on arriving at the hotel our room was not ready and unfortunately reception was useless in giving us any information.
Room, water park and pools were all lovely. I recommend the pool by the shop for adults as you have a separate bar, hot tub and barley any children around.
Restaurant was fantastic, one of the best I’ve had on holiday. I’m a vegetarian with a serious nut allergy. There was a whole vegetarian section and every single food item had allergy information. Drinks were not as good as the alcohol was very watered down. There is also the option to eat at the hotels separate Italian restaurant- which I would not recommend as we had an awful meal there.
Beach is lovely 2 sun beds for €8. There is a free bus from the hotel but you would be lazy to get it as it’s only around a 10 minute walk.
Close to Zante hotpoints. Taxi into party Laganas (€8) and taxi into Zante old town (€10).
Would highly recommend Pandesia restaurant just up the toad from the hotel. Do visit their Greek night for some fun and Greek culture!
