Great views in wonderful Lake Placid, but does not meet Crowne standards

We frequent IHG properties including Crowne Plaza's and while the views are absolutely outstanding and the rooms are clean the hotel has a much more Holiday Inn feel and service level then a Crowne. The are huge numbers of Hockey players and teams that are not managed or supervised in the pool and hot tub, at least 20 kids in the hot tub at once and no way for other guests to use those facilities. Also there was trash in the halls (unassumingly left by the little players). While I understand the area has tournaments and the hotel accepts guests to fill the property the impact the other guests is significant. Given the size of the hotel it seems as though you might consider not putting the young hockey teams in the areas that all guests have to use to get to their room, i guess better they are in the thoroughfare, but they don't help to put the facilities best foot forward.

The Sunday Brunch was for the hockey teams only and left all other guests to order from the menu int he main dining room, why not offer a brunch for other guests in the main dining room? Also the coffee is poor at best, they only offer Folgers brewed coffee. There is no option for Espresso, etc unless you travel downtown. We have stayed several times and also find the 2 night minimum for a hotel to be an issue, no other hotels in the area require that.

We stay because we enjoy the location and the views but do not expect Crowne level service, if you expect Holiday Inn service you will have a nice visit to LP.

The Lake Placid Crowne Plaza is why I maintain an IHG card!

Ray Damp and his staff are top notch. I have been coming to the Crowne Plaza for over 15 years and the staff always welcome me back, whether its at the front desk or at a meal. I usually am treated to a complimentary upgrade which is not an expectation but is always appreciated. If you are considering a trip to Lake Placid, enjoy the spectacular views from the Crowne Plaza. We use it for our home base several times a year for cycling, skiing, hiking and canoeing! We stayed at the Crowne in September, October and are headed back in November!
