Girls' Weekend - Great Place to Stay

by whiteoaksplace

This was our first trip to Ft. Myers and we had no idea where to stay. We took a chance on the Fountain Cottages Inn. All the girls liked the idea of staying in a cottage so we booked it. We were offered a cottage with 2 queens and a futon. It had a kitchenette (not that we cooked), it was modern and very clean. We loved it and would definitely stay again. I would suggest putting a mirror in the room other than that it was perfect for us.

AVOID

We have a group of friends that get together from all over the US, to beach and shell. Last year, several stayed at Fountain Cottages Inn. We all decided to stay again, this year.

The motel is under new ownership. This year, we saw MAJOR changes and not for the good. The WiFi is basically non existent. It drops more than it connects. After speaking to the “operator,” we were assured they paid for an upgrade a couple of months ago, and their systems guy has verified the service is good. It is NOT!

I was a late arrival. I arrived to a door with NO exterior light. It was dark, and my unit was next to a unit that appeared to be rented as a monthly rental. It was un-nerving at best.

The AC unit is right next to the bed. When it’s on, you can’t hear the TV. When it kicks off, you must adjust the volume again. The front room has a fan but, in order for the fan to run, the light must be on. When I found a fan remote, I hit the light switch and it did turn the fan light off. However, that in turn .... turned the fan light on over the bed.

You freeze in your bed but, the front room stays hot. There is no happy medium.

My friends arrived, and there were no hangers in their closets. Four women, renting a 2 bedroom unit for one week. No hangers, one 4 cup coffee pot, and 2 rolls of tissue. SERIOUSLY?

The rooms may appear cute but, you should avoid until the new owners learn to manage their business. The WiFi is an issue, as one in our group must still telecommute while on vacation.
