Stunning authentic island, shame it's changing....

by Claireabella10cc

We visited Gasfinolhu island in 2014 as a couple ???? on a lower price deal, (our third time in Thebmaldives at varying islands) we expected a no frills island and an authentic experience and we got it!!

This is a truly stunning island, extremely genuine, authentic and true Maldivian style, it's such a small island, takes just 15 minutes to walk all the way around, spectacular views of the Indian ocean throughout, really is paradise.

There's no pool yet you can literally step into the sea from your villa, very very secluded so from relaxing on sunbeds outside your villa, you feel like you're on your own desert island.

Lots of natural animals and nature, you see geckos, lizards, stingray, small sharks, octopus ????, squid, fish and baby crabs... It's wonderful to see them in their own habitat.

Villa's are fairly small, a little dark and in need of maintenance yet we understand that the island is being torn down to make way for a new modern complex, I truly hope it doesn't spoil the wonderful natural charms of this amazing place....

Restaurant and bar is superb, both housed in a outdoor themed thatched building, very natural materials and again all created to keep the feel of the true Maldivian style of bamboo, wood and natural paints.

The staff are delightful and very friendly always happy to help. Make your holiday very special as we have always found with Maldives teams, they are fabulous.

We would love to go back and probably will once it's revamped but I hope it's still a place we want to go back to.....

Small island but nice!

This island and hotel is ideal for couples who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of every day life, it's small and very private, not to mention extremely peaceful.

The staff are very friendly and amazingly helpful, the rooms are very old and not up to our standards but because we liked the island so much we just didn't care about it after the first day.

Food in the restaurant is very average, decent selection but menu is repeated every so often, but I wouldn't call this a complaint.

Location is good, only 25 mins from the airport by a speedboat.

Overall it's great value for money, and if you want to experience the Maldives with limited finances, this is a very good option.

Please note I travelled before the hotel closed for refurbishments in December 2010.
