Great July Stay and very convenient

by Gary L

I would have given it a top rating except for the slow check-in process and recognition that your room choice can make a difference. We had a second floor balcony room and I would encourage anyone staying here to pay the few bucks more to get these rooms. It was a nice comfortable room, good view of the street into Grand Lake to guage traffic and ability to see the Lake. We had it over July 4th and make your reservation now for next year for one of these rooms because it was a perfect view and gave the perception (even though somewhat distant) that the fireworks in the sky were exploding right toward you. It was the best Fireworks display I have ever seen.
Also the hotel is perfect location by the highway, so you can easily drive to the quieter side of RMNP in maybe 5 minutes, or down to Granby in about 20, or into town. Now I am not a crowd person so staying in the hub bub of downtown Grand Lake is not my thing but it was a 5 minute drive and not that hard to find parking to enjoy the downtown area, restaurants, and then get out. Plus, the Gateway Inn has a decent real separately run restaurant, and a lounge/bar area by check-in as well. Highly recommend.

Short stay for family

by Bob999

Stayed as family of four in the Penthouse suite.

The suite looks like it was built as an apartment within the hotel - perhaps for the owners? The door has a sign on it that says "Private". It has a large living room with a somewhat distant lake view. There are plenty of beds and a full kitchen. It did not feel super clean with stains on the light colored carpeting. There are two twin beds in a loft accessible by ladder. Our kids were at first excited, but it was a pretty high climb and we had some safety concerns with their climbing down the ladder in the middle of the night. There were plenty of other beds in the unit, so this was not a problem for us. Window coverings were not great for light control.

There was air conditioning and it worked well. Wi-Fi was also good.

It is located over the bar, and they had live music on the night we were there. It is very loud in the room, but they thankfully stopped before our bedtime (they stopped after 9PM). Other rooms would not have this issue.

It looked like one of the nicer properties in town.
