Murder Mystery Dinner and Hotel Stay

by HillsboroughTraveler

We had the pleasure of staying in an absolutely beautiful room at the Golden Plough. We also enjoyed a very entertaining dinner at the Cock & Bull restaurant, that was a spoof on Game of Thrones. I definitely recommend.

Lovely area but not what we expected

We have been staying at the Golden Plough for about 28 years. We come back because we love the location and shops. When we checked in, the accomodations we had requested were not available so we were placed in a room that was supposed to have the same amenities. However, our room did not have the same amenities. This particular building does not have an elevator, it does not have the same kind of bathroom or living space, it was much smaller and did not have a sofa to relax on, just a chair with a (dirty) ottoman. There wasn't a trundle bed (which we wouldn't have needed anyway, but the other rooms do have one), but the most annoying difference is the air conditioning. The air conditioning in the room we had was old and noisy. You cannot adjust the vents and it is right next to the bed at bed level so if you have it on, it blows on your all night long. When the compressor comes on, it will wake you up unless you are a very heavy sleeper. The ac in the room requested is new and updated and very quiet. We came to relax and on the first night were awoken all night long. By the second night we were so tired, we turned the ac off to get some sleep, even though the room got pretty hot. They used to have wine glasses and snacks in the rooms but those are gone and you would get breakfast coupons which are no longer part of the package I supposed because we didn't get them either. All in all, I would have appreciated knowing that our room was not what we had requested. I would have cancelled the reservation or switched to a weekend when it was available. I did talk to the front desk but to no avail. This was just a disapointing stay. Of course dinner at the Italian restaurant across the street was wonderful and we enjoyed the walking and looking at the scarecrow contestants. The new spa is very nice. Next time, we'll either get the room we request or stay elsewhere as these rooms are very expensive to not be satisfied and I was surprised that when I wrote to the manager, he never even answered me. I think that is very sad considering how long we have been coming to this place.
