Ok, guys, lets get right to it !
This is my 3rd Secrets in the past year. (You can see my reviews on the other 2 on TripAdvisor).
To say that THIS Secrets was better than the others, would be an understatement.
While the others (in the Mexico area) were wonderful, they don’t begin to compare to this one.
The food ? OUTSTANDING.
The service ? ASTOUNDING.
The area ? Incomparable.
First , the beauty of the entire Peninsula is almost overwhelming. The resort itself is beautiful, well kept, well stocked, and impeccably maintained.
I know there is a lot of debate as to whether “all inclusive” is “better” or not. In this particular case, I had just come from Andaz (see my review) and I found that, although AESTHETICALLY, Andaz “may” have the edge (and IF so, only by molecules - (and could EASILY be disagreed-with by someone else - it's that close), I have to say both properties are GORGEOUS; and, again, by molecules, Andaz’s customer service MAY have edged Secrets out (by millimeters, IF at all), the food at Secrets is noticeably better in terms of taste AND choices.
(That having been said, others opine that Andaz is more “tropical” - personally, I think it has to do with WHERE, in the resort, your room is located).
Personally, I think there is more rest to be had at Andaz and, if rest and only rest is what you’re looking for, that’s the place for you. At Secrets, there is virtually NO end to the activities -LOL, even a blackjack tournament ! (YAY!). (Not to mention the hikes, pool volleyball, - there was just more to DO at secrets and I think that is not by accident; they cater to different populations).
In conclusion, I would come back here in a heartbeat. Everything here is first rate. I simply could not have planned a better place - you cannot...CANNOT go wrong here.
This particular resort does not live up to our previous experiences at other Secrets locations. As UVC members, reception told us to contact UVC about the next level room upgrade upon check-in. The issue was resolved later, but check-in was significantly delayed. We were without water for a full day in our room, so we could not take showers until after 5pm, and we had to request a shuttle to use the bathroom facilities in the main area until the water issue was resolved later in the evening. We also had to request towels/washcloths 2 or 3 days because used towels were removed, but not replaced in the room. It took almost an hour to receive the towels each day we needed to request replacements. The beach was very small, and almost non-existent during changes in the tide. Rooms are smaller than we've seen at other AM resorts. The pros include the wait staff friendliness and food selection at the restaurants. The shuttle drivers were top-notch!
