How to Make Your Own Mask with Fabric

Things You Need

Directions

Layer the three pieces of fabric on top of one another and pin or clip the ends of the elastic pieces where you’d like them placed on the fabric. Sew around the border of the fabric using a ¼-inch seam and double stitch over the elastic ends, but be sure to leave about a 2-inch hole on either end of the mask where the elastic bands are. Once sewn, flip the fabric inside out using the hole openings. Then create two folds about ¼ inch wide from the top and clip your folds in preparation to sew. Sew all the way around the entire border of the mask, closing the former openings on the edges. Your mask is now complete! You can watch the video above for more detailed instruction on how to sew a face mask.

How to Make Your Own No-Sew Mask

Things You Need

Directions

Making a no-sew mask requires a few folds of 22 inch by 22 inch fabric or bandana. (Watch the video above fo detailed folding instructions). Place the coffee filter in the center of the fabric prior to folding the fabric for added protection. Add the hair ties to either end of the folded fabric about a quarter of the way in on each side. Take the ends of the folded pieces and fit them inside one another. Then use the hair ties to fit them around your ears while covering your nose and mouth with the fabric.
