Room with a view

We stayed for 2 nights in room 18, a lovely room with a patio and sea views. Very clean rooms. Breakfast was modest but reasonable. A nice hotel right on the black sandy beach. Our base for the evening hike up Stromboli- highly recommended!

Surprisingly unwelcoming

by Mei-Mei K

We went to Stromboli for the volcano and found limited accommodations. This was among the best rated but left much to be desired. The room we had was small and dated, with a sofa, table, tiny fridge, odd little nook and small bath. The front porch had a nice view through the bushes of the black sand beach, sea and Strombolicchio rock. This was the only hotel on our three weeks that wouldn't provide a kettle in our room.

The breakfast was modest self serve, with coffee options provided by a surly waitress. There didn't seem to be many guests to deal with, but aside from the nice lady who took our passports and gave me a map with Italian gestures toward town, all the other workers were dour. I did notice some smiling at other guests. Maybe it was just us. We had to vacate our room by 10:30, which seemed very early.

The location is fine: the island is filled with motorized golf cart type vehicles for hauling people and luggage. Town is about 15 minutes away with a church, restaurants and shops. It was a nice easy stroll by the main road back to the hotel. You can also walk to the observatory and the highest unguided part of Stromboli by going to the left on the main road.

The beach looked so uninviting we never went in though it was right in front!
