Nice hotel w/ some exceptions

by Christopher M

My wife and I stayed here and the stay was good but not perfect. All of the employees were excellent. I was a bit surprised that when we arrived they had upgraded our room to a junior suite. However, when we got to the room we discovered the upgrade was for a room with a queen bed, not the king I had booked.

We ate dinner at the Regency Room. We were greeted by a very polite man that seated us. The food was good but not as good as I expected for the price. The filets were cooked perfectly. However, the sides and vegetables were bland. In addition, after I got home I realized they double charged my card 280$. I called and was told there was nothing they could do until it clears my bank. I didn't even get an apology. I had to wait 5 days for the charge to drop off. In the meantime I was out of 280$. They could have handled it better.

beautiful place

we had never heard of this place, but when an older friend mentioned it, we knew we wanted to stay here since we often pass through Roanoke. Hilton has done a wonderful job of retaining the old charm of this historic property. We had a lovely dinner in the Regency Room, and thoroughly enjoyed walking through the lobby to see the hotel. our room was quite adequate, everything was updated without losing the charm. we were also quite surprised at the price of the room; we thought it very reasonable. expect a rather expensive dinner - but the food was wonderful.
