Did we just check into a cave?

by Mikejack52pe

We reserved a Grande King room at the Inn & Spa at Loretto for 2 nights in October and were disappointed.
Cons: Parking is free on site, but must be done by a valet. If you need access to your vehicle (even to get an extra pair of shoes from the trunk) during your stay a valet must bring your vehicle to the lobby entrance.
The rooms are dark, almost cave-like. Management needs to paint the walls in a lighter color and add more lighting.
The bathroom is very small; if someone is standing in front of the sink, you cannot open the bathroom door without hitting that person with the edge of the door.
The closet is inconveniently located in the bathroom.
The room was spacious, but a lot of the space was wasted and could be used for a bench for luggage, coat racks, another sofa, etc.
It was cold in the room at night; the glass in the windows are only single pane. The heating unit roared when it operated.
$30 per day resort fee???
Pros: Close to the Square with its many shops and restaurants
Hotel staff were friendly.
Finally, even though there are receptacles labeled for recyclables, don't bother; I observed the housekeeper dump both the trash and recyclables into one large trash bag on her cart.

Great central location

Very comfortable and well appointed. 2 issues: We encountered an infestation of box elder bugs in our hotel room. I guess we weren't forceful enough initially about our frustration. After speaking with the manager in person after several days of dealing with killing the harmless but annoying bugs; we were told we could have had another room on the opposite side of the hotel. The manager took care of the resort fee and comped 1 breakfast and dinner.
2nd issue: The name indicates to me that there is a spa. There are rooms dedicated for treatments and a pool but no other spa like facilities. I thought that was odd.
Over all a very nice, comfortable hotel which is walking distance to everything.
