Overview

Location, location, location. And budget-friendly! Those are the calling cards of this pleasant, if not basic hotel that’s centrally situated in the Plaka neighborhood. Your family will be near all of the famous archaeological and historical sites in Athens, and close to the metro.

If you plan on being out of your room exploring all day (and you should), then you won’t miss the creature comforts of a luxury hotel, and you won’t be missing any extra money either, because the Kimon Athens Hotel is a relatively inexpensive choice in a pricey city! Fear not, there is air conditioning to battle the Athens summer heat!

If you don’t mind the hike up (there is no elevator), ask for a family studio with a full bed, plus two twin sofa beds, located on the roof terrace, to enjoy views of the Acropolis!

Boutique??!! NO NO NO

by 19caz59

Booked a Superior room for one night. According to their own website Superior rooms have a balcony. On questioning the young girl on reception she said that Superior rooms don’t all have a balcony so either this is true or I was just fobbed off!! As for being a ‘boutique’ hotel let me say that a dress hanging up as you walk into the building and a bookcase with a few books and nick nacks on it does in no way constitute ‘boutique’.......laughable!!! ????????????

As for our room, where do I start!! We had had a long day travelling back from Delphi and were rather hungry so we just wanted a quick shower/change so we could go for dinner.

The room was really small with just enough room to walk around the beds. The bathroom was tiny. Very small wash basin with nowhere to put anything and no shelf either. Tiny shower too. The towels were grey rather than white and raggy at the sides and the so called bath towel was really small and just about big enough to wrap round.

The wardrobe hangers were too high and I couldn’t reach them and the wardrobe door didn’t close close properly. Two of the sockets were behind the headboards and the beds had to be moved to use them. The one socket that was easily accessible was loose in the wall and so didn’t feel safe to use.

Worst off all the air conditioning unit started dripping onto one of the beds while we were getting changed to go out. As we were in a hurry to get out we turned the air con off. It stayed off all through the night on our return and so the room was very hot. Too noisy a location to have a window open. Nobody on reception when we went out to mention it to and as we had a very early start in the morning it was reported to the reception when we checked out.

To end with, there is no way this was a Superior room. If it was I would dread to think what the other rooms are like??!!

The worst place I’ve ever stayed and WOULD DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMEND!!!

Close to everything, would stay there again!

The last part of our vacation was a 4 night stay in Athènes.

Staying at the hotel Kimon made sense, being located in the heart of this intriguing city. Being walkers, we were close to the Acropolis, ancient agora, Monastiraki neighborhood, the Parliament, national gardens. We almost never took the train.

And close to foodstores, pharmacies, shops, restaurants, cafés, etc.

There is someone 24h at the reception : we enjoyed talking to them. Always a big smile, useful advices, willing to assist us if we needed anything. A special thanks to Apollon who was there most of the time (his schedule fitted with our in and outs of the hotel), with whom we had interesting conversations!

The room was great, tidy, clean. the roof balcony offers a view on the Acropolis, which is a plus : we had video chat with our nephews with a splendid decor!

We would surely recommend the place, and we’d stay there again!
