Under construction for a face lift

by Michelle T

Have stayed here a half dozen times prior to 2013. Wonderful area and thought the place was a palace. But stayed here just the other day and though construction was going on, you just can’t hide years of neglect with paint. They have painted the rooms with 2 walls of dark grey, the wall behind the headboard a deep, dark purple and wall papered the last wall with fake looking grey tile flooring...put in new multi colored dark carpeting to make a very dark room. The TV had to be the first Westinghouse flat screen TV, small and appeared to be going out as the picture was ghostly white overcast with not much color. They did put in new tile flooring in the bath, the wall behind the new toilet was painted bright red, new tub and tile, but not a single towel rack, towels were outside the tub area under a new vanity and sink. The door jams we all gouged and had been painted over so many times it looked like a drunk did the painting. So they simply painted over damaged walls and doors or put wall paper over gouged walls. I will say the beds are comfy as are the pillows. So the rooms are not being remodeled but simply a freshing up face lift. The ice machine on the second floor was out of order, and they didn’t have one on the 3rd floor. The hallways are also painted dark grey and other dark colors making it feel very dark and gloomy, like in the movie The Shining. Then to top it off, when I checked out they added a surprise “occupancy fee” of $3.00 to my bill. This place is no longer a palace, but needs a true remodel not a paint over...not worth what they charge .

Construction and Mold spores

by jschedler

When booking the room, no one mentioned the major construction that was happening. Also they did not mention the rooms had not been updated since possibly the 1980's? We were greeted by a make-shift check-in desk and a temporary construction wall plus the smell of sawdust (which was everywhere) and paint which we can only assume was happening in the room behind the construction wall. To get to our room, we traveled the halls normally reserved for the kitchen and housekeeping staff. Arriving at our room and opening the door, we were hit with many smells: mold spores, carpet deodorizer and other cleaning products to make the appearance of a decent room. Being allergic to mold spores, an immediate stuffed nose and headache came on. Unfortunately, we were there for wedding events which prevented us from checking out immediately, but we did the next day as my health could not take two nights in that room. Old dirty carpet and popcorn ceilings were also provided. Ugh. In the halls were drywall sheets and lots of construction dust. This hotel should have been closed for this renovation.
