Clean and comfortable, but NOT a park and fly

by Detassle

Hotel was clean and comfortable , but clearly mis-advertised. Appeared to be a good deal for the price. Pulled it up In a search as a “park and fly”. Got to the website and “free airport shuttle” appeared. When I checked in, I was informed that the shuttle didn’t start until 6 am. My flight was at 6:40. I was then told they would work it out and have a ride for me at 5:15. Knowing this was a sketchy plan, I found that I could get a Lyft ride for about $5 as a backup plan. The next morning, I got up early only to find out that I did not have a ride and that, “well, I don’t know if you can leave your car here or not. I could call my manager, but she has not been answering her phone.” So, here I sit at the airport, having driven myself here, now with an extra $40 parking bill to pay. So, clean and comfortable hotel, but not a “park and fly”.

Calm in a crisis

by Linda M

My husband and I stayed at this La Quinta, the first weekend in August. Long story short, this hotel took a direct hit from an EF2 tornado on August 5, 2017.
I don't EVER want to be in a tornado again, but if I am, I do want this hotel staff there supporting me! The GM, Stephanie was not there during the storm, but her second in command was and he was stellar. He evacuated everyone from the upper floors and brought us to the 1st floor. Water was beginning to fill the walls because the building was so heavily damaged! The roof was literally in the swimming pool and EVERY shard of glass in the building was gone. Doors, entryways, windows... gone. Live power lines were laying in the parking lot and the staff kept everyone away until help arrived.
The dogs mentioned in someone else's review as a complaint... they were lifesavers for us. Petting a puppy dog after you realize you could have been killed is rather theraputic.
Stephanie drove through a gauntlet of debris on the freeway at 2:00 AM to get to the hotel and take charge. She handled the guests well, as morning came and people wanted to leave. She calmly explained that it wasn't safe yet and she would let them know when they could get their cars from the lot safely. Our car was probably the LEAST damaged in the lot and we had nearly $500 in repairs. Flying tree pieces with wind did unimaginable damage to cars and trucks in the lot.
Best of all, the build held and NO ONE inside was hurt. I will always be a fan of La Quinta because of this experience.
