Our party was a group of late 20s to 40’s professional women. We are pretty mild-mannered, and as such, chose a relaxing wine tour for my friend’s bachelorette festivities. We were treated like children.
Although it does not state any such policy on their website, we were immediately asked to remove some lightly suggestive bachelorette merchandise and sign waivers promising that we would not swear during the duration of our trip. We refused to sign the waiver, and they did not press the issue - likely because they wanted our business. However, once on the bus, we were lectured about profane language and told we would be taken back to the Lodge if we used profane language. The bus also had a sign saying that obscene language is prohibited. We were told that the winery owners strictly prohibited these obscenities and ‘paraphernalia’.
(I’d like to point out that this behavior was not personal to our driver - but was likely something enforced by management.)
While I’m not keen on wild behavior, I do not appreciate being condescended. At 30, I do not appreciate being policed. This left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth, including the other bachelorette party that was sitting with us on the bus (in fact, they proceeded to throw profanities and talk about sex loudly in protest).
We were driven to three wineries and picked up after an hour. After talking to several employees at the wineries, it appeared that these were the Lodge’s policies as opposed to the wineries. Our outfits were complimented and the employees at these wineries were incredibly cordial. As such, I would recommend using a more ‘adult-friendly’ service for your upcoming bachelorette.
This hotel certainly ticks all the boxes! Stayed here for 1 night while on a 6 week road trip of USA. Location is perfect, rooms are beautiful and lovely food. Only one gripe - when we checked in we were met with a very rude, frosty woman called Vicky on reception!. We had been given an e-voucher by our travel agent and she demanded that we have one printed out. She waved her hand in the direction of the computer at the back of reception area and said get it printed or she couldn't check us in!! Not the best of welcomes! We managed to do this eventually with the help of another lovely member of staff. Management need to have a word with her!! However this did not detract from this lovely hotel and I would definitely recommend it to anyone.
