Warm welcoming staff!

by whitneyryant

We stayed at Manchebo 4 years ago and did the all inclusive to celebrated our 25 wedding anniversary and 50th birthdays. We loved everything about it especially the staff that was so kind to us. This visit we rented a villa instead of staying at Manchebo but couldn’t wait to go back and visit and eat at our favorite restaurants there Ike’s Bistro and Pegga Pegga. 4 years later Jean and Jason remembered us and treated us like long lost family! We had 2 fabulous lunches at Pegga Pegga with both Jean and Annamaria. Happy hour cocktails are the best on the island and we had fun catching up with our favorite staff!
Jason talked us into coming for Paella night and it didn’t disappoint it was delicious!! Carman walked us through all it included and both she and Jason treated us like royalty. Jason even remembered it was my birthday and surprised me with a cake at the end of dinner. I even got a warm welcome from Elton John the waiter who also remembered us! Visiting Manchebo was the highlight of our vacation. If you stay there or eat there you can’t go wrong!! Not only is the resort beautiful the staff is the best.

Service Above and Beyond

My wife and I visited Manchebo Resort in March 2019. I am ashamed to post this review so late as I should have done it immediately -- anyone who comes to this resort should know what happened to me; it's important.
This will be a very different review from the ones others have posted. I can echo all the reviews you read about the beauty of the area. The sea is clean, clear, and warm. The sand is soft and fine. The weather is preternaturally perfect. The resort itself is lovely, the food wonderful, and the staff everything you could hope for.
I had the good fortune, through my own misfortune, to experience the very heart and soul of this resort, and what I learned, through hard luck, should make others want to come here.
As I said, my wife and I came to Manchebo in March. We had a wonderful time. On our final day, a half hour before we were to leave, I slipped and fell and seriously injured my knee. I learned later that I had torn my quadriceps tendon. This tear required surgical repair and many months of rehabilitation. My injury, I'd like to make clear, was entirely my fault and not in any way to be blamed on Manchebo. This was all on me.
I was on my back, unable to get up. My wife went to the front desk and told them what had happened and asked them for help. They immediately dispatched Setchel and their medical staff Ms. Jessica to assess and help. When they came to me, they assessed my status and began what treatment they could.  They said I needed to be seen by medical emergency services and would arrange to get me there. I looked at these two slight but brave people and knew they couldn't lift me. Jessica was willing, even though she was in early pregnancy, but I knew better that that. I said I "needed a big guy" to help as I knew they could not raise me on my one good leg (I'm a "big guy" myself}. In a very short while, here comes Patrick -- most certainly, the "big guy." Patrick, it turned out, was Patrick van den Berg, the assistant manager of the resort (soon to be full manager, I hope).
Patrick and Setchel raised me to my good foot, got me downstairs and into a car, and brought me to the urgent care they knew would do the best job. While Jessica and Setchel stayed with me at the medical care facility, and later helped me get a brace and crutches to help me along, Patrick went back to the hotel and took charge of all the logistics needed because of my injury. He got us another night in a room in the resort, even in their busy season, re-arranged our flights home, and made everything well. He ensured I had a seat on the plane with extra leg room, and even arranged wheel chair transport at JFK. He was a real mensch.
The memory of our wonderful stay at Manchebo could have been ruined by my fall on the last day, but Patrick's ready willingness to help and his calm and skilled management of the crisis leaves us with happy memories even of the last day. I couldn't recommend this resort more. We look forward to returning soon.
