A great base for Cusco

by brianmphotog

Absolutely loved this place. We stayed for 4 nights prior to our trek to Machu Picchu and booked in for an additional 2 nights when we returned. The staff had no issues taking our bags and minding them for the few days we were gone, so if you're concerned about that you have nothing to worry about.

The staff were extremely warm and helpful. Only 1 of the members has good English, but we really enjoyed practicing our Spanish with them. We had a very important international phonecall that had to be taken while staying there and the hotel did not hesitate in offering their phone to let us deal with it. They simply gave their number to us, and transferred the call straight to our room. I really appreciated this. Breakfast was basic but fine, beautiful view from the roof! Our room had a small wall-mounted heater which done just enough to keep the room at an okay temperature. Definitely not a powerful heater, but enough to take the cold out of the room. It's definitely a tough walk to the hotel, but a taxi should only cost 5-6 soles from the main area if you're tired. We done the walk plenty of times late in the evening and didn't feel unsafe. Lots of stray dogs about but that's pretty normal for these cities.

The windows in the room are pretty thin so noise travel is a small issue. Maybe consider earplugs if you're a light sleeper and you get a room at the front of the hotel. Also the WiFi; when it worked it was great, but there were times when it was gone for hours on end. We didn't really mind this too much, plenty of things to do in Cusco rather than sit on your phone, but probably worth mentioning in case it's necessary for someone.
