Where are people traveling or hoping to travel in 2016? If 2015 social media indicates trends, London comes out on top. Data from London & Partners and Spredfast uncovered “London” and “travel” were tweeted together more than 630,000 times in 2015 — nearly a third more than Twitter’s other popular city tweets for Paris, New York, Rome and Tokyo.
In fact, “London” was tweeted more than 81 million times in 2015, with the London Eye the top tweeted attraction.
Other social media influencers have found similar results: London is listed as the most “selfied” city on Instagram, and Google found the city searched more than any other capital city since 2004.
London has much to celebrate in 2016, which could make this a busy year for travel to England. In 2016, Queen Elizabeth II will celebrate her 90th birthday with much fanfare, and William Shakespeare will also be celebrated in style for what would have been his 400th birthday.
