Reviews

What a wonderful hotel!

by airmere

This is a very special place to stay. It is first class and they treat you well. My family and I really enjoyed staying here. The heated pool - during November - was terrific. The breakfast is first class. We will definitely come back.

It’s a Charmer

A beautiful old property repurposed as a resort hotel on Lake Otesago. This is my 3rd stay and it was quite relaxing. Having a drink on the verandah overlooking the water is a simple pleasure worth experiencing at least once by everyone visiting Cooperstown.

We stayed in a fifth floor suite with a beautiful view of the lake. Spacious clean quiet and well appointed with lots of storage space to accommodate your clothing and other accoutrements. Be advised however there is no elevator to the fifth floor. So you have to be able to walk up at least one flight of stairs to get to your room.

And as much as I delighted in my stay here, there were a few service issues that I feel I should mention. The bartender on the first floor servicing the deck patrons was downright surly. And we had the disconcerting experience of having one of the hotel reception staff say they were going to make a dinner reservation for us which they never did. These kind of glitches just don’t happen in really great hotels.

Brunch here is lovely and even with our minor disappointments I would still recommend this venue.

Family Activities

Pool
The Otesaga Resort Hotel offers a lovely outdoor pool that overlooks Lake Otsego. There are plenty of shaded tables and chairs available, as well as chaise lounges.

Kayaks
Want the best views of Lake Otesgo? Get out on the water! Complimentary kayaks are available to borrow on a first come, first served basis.

Bicycles
You can also borrow bikes from the hotel, and it's a short, easy ride into downtown Cooperstown (about five minutes away).

Family Dining

The Hawkeye Bar & Grill
The Hawkeye Bar & Grill is the best onsite dining option for families, with a casual atmosphere and kid-friendly fare.

Glimmerglass
Glimmerglass offers a bountiful breakfast buffet each morning. Complimentary to guests, the buffet includes made-to-order omelettes, eggs, pancakes, French toast, oatmeal, cereal, bacon, sausage, pastries, fruit, yogurt and more. There's also a luncheon buffet, dinner and dessert.

Leatherstocking Golf Bar & Grill
Overlooking Lake Otesego, the Leatherstocking Golf Bar & Grill is a great place to relax with some cocktails (or mocktails!) and light fare.

Planning & Tips

All About the Extras

  • Wi-Fi
    Wi-Fi is complimentary to guests.
  • Fitness Center
The hotel has a fitness center with cardio machines and strength training equipment. It's open 24/7 with key card entry.

The Best Time to Visit
The most popular time to visit Cooperstown is the summer, when many kids and families come to play baseball with their teams at Dreams Park or attend Hall of Fame Weekend at the Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. If you want to avoid the crowds, plan a visit in May or September.

Getting There
The closest major airport to Cooperstown is Albany International Airport; however, there is limited service in and out of this airport. If flying to Cooperstown, also check Syracuse Hancock International Airport and Boston Logan International Airport.

Getting Around
Once at the resort, it's easy to get to most attractions by foot; the downtown area (where the Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is located) is a five-minute walk or bike ride away.

For Parents

  • Fire Bar
Head to the Fire Bar (a circular bar with a fire pit in the middle) for happy hour cocktails or a nightcap.
  • 1909
Opened in 2019, 1909 is named for the year The Otesaga Resort Hotel opened. This fine-dining restaurant's specialty is steak, but everything on the menu is out-of-this-world good.
