If you’re looking for some true outdoor family fun in the mountains where you won’t run out of activities to entertain the clan, consider a stay at The Ridin-Hy Ranch. The Ridin-Hy Ranch, family-owned and located in the scenic Adirondacks, was originally a girls’ camp before it was purchased by Ed Carsten in 1940. Today, it retains its “campy” feel with log cabins and a main lodge, but it’s much less rustic!
Families will love the true abundance of fun activities offered both day and night and varying by season; you’ll be hard-pressed not to find something for everyone in your family to enjoy. In addition to the usual water, winter snow and outdoorsy types of activities, you’ll find children’s arts and crafts, pony rides and horse back riding, archery, tennis, rodeos, fishing, water skiing, ice skating, hay rides and sleigh rides, and nightly activities including beachside campfires, outdoor movie nights, bingo and more. In addition, close by you’ll find golfing, Great Escape Fun Park, the Adirondack Museum, the Lake Placid Olympic Center, whitewater rafting and a challenging obstacle tree-top course.
Log cabins house from four to eight guests and all are within short walking distance to the beach, pool, main lodge and horses. The cabins offer one or two bedrooms and baths and some have a living room with a pull-out couch; decks either overlook the ranch activity or the lake. Families frequently prefer the “lodge” style accommodations for their proximity to the lake (just 50 feet from the beach area), dining area and indoor pool.
Perhaps best of all is that you won’t have to cook on your vacation as all-you-can-eat meals are included and coffee, tea, hot chocolate and cake are available throughout the day. And be sure to check out their special event style weekends with fun themes for seasonal holidays and occasions.

It was a Good Trip for us in General We had a good time pool Hot tub lake pontoon Boat ride Banana Boat Rides Best Trip ever Fitness room AC needs to be Adjusted overall nice trip we played Games on rainy days and Line Dancing and rope tricks
My husband, 5 year old daughter and I have just completed our fifth summer vacation at Ridin-Hy. This year was the year to beat all others. While I would have always rated the ranch highly, this year was super fun primarily because of our daughters age. She was able to do so much more and have far more freedom than in years past. We were able to take advantage of more activities than previous.
Lets be clear here, this is not 5 star accommodation. So if you are a hotel snob, you may want to reconsider a visit. But if you are into the outdoors, wonderful staff, freedom to participate (or not) in a multitude of activities, then you should definitely check this place out.
Rooms are basic and rustic. Beds are comfy. No keys to the doors (though each room has a safe). The worst thing I can say is that the towels are small and scratchy. However, the room is NOT why you would visit this place.
Activities are plentiful and usually included in the price. In the summer, watersports are paramount. Pontoon and banana boat rides, water skiing, paddle boards, pedal boats and kayaks. Oh yeah, fishing too (from the dock or on organized boat trips).
Horseback riding daily is also included. Trail rides from beginner to the expert and lessons beginning at age 5. The cowboys and girls are amazingly friendly and willing to help. I can't say enough about them! Stormy, the lead cowboy, went out of his way to make my daughters vacation dreams come true!
Food is included in all stays. It is plentiful and tasty. I'm pretty sure I packed on a few pounds before our departure. In addition, late night snacks vary by day including pizza, hot dogs, and ice cream.
The atmosphere can be as laid back or as active as you choose. There is never pressure to participate, but always something going on for those looking to get involved.
Staff is amazing. From the activities staff to the dining room servers to the front desk, everyone does what they can to make your vacation memorable. Hoffe is super social, loud and fun....best activities coordinator around!
We can't wait to go back in July 2020!
