Shower Did Not Work - Check room before signing in.

by buenvino

This is of course a no frills budget hotel but it also seems to have a budget management.

When we stayed here we discovered in the morning that not only did the shower not work but that someone had tried to repair it and left the screws half hanging out as if they planned to return with a new faucet.

We rang reception and were told the maintenance man would repair it at 8am. He did but made no comment on what had gone wrong.

Earlier we found the breakfast offer near reception was the bare minimum but we did snag the last two yoghurts.

We did receive an email apology from the hotel.

It is on the north side of Monticello on the 191 just past a gas station. Main car park is in front. We suggest you test everything in your room to see if it works before checking in.

Monticello has little to offer visitors but we did discover a great place to eat near the Rodeway. Doug’s Steak and BBQ was packed midweek and is located opposite the gas station at 469 North Main (191) down a dimly lit side street and first on the right – not to be confused with the Peace Tree Café on the corner of that side road.

Basic lodging

We arrived somewhat late and I was pleased to receive the first floor room I had requested. Room was of adequate size and appeared clean. Furniture appeared new. It was nice to have the sink outside of the bathroom and the vanity was of adequate size. It was also nice to have tile on the floor around the sink area. Overall, the hotel was quiet during our stay and we didn't notice hardly any noise from the road.
I wasn't expecting luxury accommodations, but the following is a list of items that have room for improvement. The showerhead had lots of pressure but no adjustment for different settings. The lever on the toilet was VERY difficult to flush. The towels were rather thin. It is my opinion that it is time to replace the shower curtain as it was rather dingy and seemed stained. The coffeemaker leaked all over the place. The mattress was hard and of lesser quality. I am of average height and my feet stuck out over the end of the bed which was a first. So I found that very strange.
Breakfast was meager as expected. Basically just breads and sausage, no eggs. You'll probably want to go out to eat. However, I recommend going to another town.
