Round Hill Relaxation -- Just what we needed
by Caitlin's Mom
This was our second visit to Round Hill, and I have to say it's becoming a favorite for our family. Perfect if you're looking for an easy all-inclusive resort for chillaxing that's small, low key, tranquil and has great food and service. From the NY/Philly area it's a quick 3 ... more hour non-stop flight to Jamaica, and you can be on the patio for lunch.

The property itself is beautifully landscaped with bougainvillea, hibiscus and tropical flowers everywhere you look, reminiscent more of Hawaii than many Caribbean resorts we've visited. It's an older resort and shows its age in places, however, to us that's one of the charms. The staff has been there forever it seems and you really get outstanding service.

We have a teen and a tween so we opted for a two bedroom villa, which was much more spacious than we really needed and included our own swimming pool, large patio, outdoor eating area, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, an inside living/dining room and a kitchen. Best of all, the villas come with your own housekeeper who cooks breakfast to order each morning. The villas are independently owned so they vary quite a bit in terms of decor and several are really in need of updating, but the privacy and quiet is definitely worth it. This time around we had villa 8, which has a spacious and secluded lot off to one side of the property. The inside needs a renovation, but the spaciousness and setting was well worth it.

Families with smaller children seem to gravitate towards the Pineapple House main lodge, which offers rooms with two double beds and is near the beach and large infinity pool. The nannies are great if you have little ones and are very reasonably priced. There's a kids program for kids up to 12. Mine tried this when they were younger. It's a small program and hit or miss depending on how many kids are there. The counselors are good, but kids seem to show up only for certain events and aren't there all the time or not many anyways.

This was a very low key relaxing vacation, which is what we needed. Days were spent swimming, snorkeling (right off the private beach), sailing, tubing, reading, walking and eating. Food is superb. There's a different themed cuisine buffet each night, plus two different standard menus you can order off of.

A few tips -- go for the meal plan. You really won't want to leave and it's less expensive to pay for the plan than pay for the meals ala cart.

Favorite hangout -- hammocks and big beds at tranquility cove near the spa. Amazing to me that hardly anyone goes out there.

Infinity pool is best late afternoon just before sunset when all the little kids are getting ready for dinner if you're looking for a quieter swim and a great spot to watch the sunset.

The basket weavers on the property will show you how to weave and will make things to order for you.

We left the resort only one day to go zip lining. I'd recommend Jamaica Zipline Adventure Tours over Chukka. We've done both and the zip lines at the first are longer and higher, more fun. Plus the tour guides are fabulous.
