Basic, but clean and comfortable and OPEN

by Karrst

We stayed one night in August 2017 on our drive through to Yellowstone. We had booked on line through our American friend who was travelling with us. We had made the booking in early 2017 as part of our US and Hawaii trip. She did make us aware that just before we arrived there had been a problem with the reservation on booking.com and it had been cancelled. She had however managed to hold of the people at the lodge and they confirmed that the booking was still ok. Nevertheless we were still doubtful about what we would find.
As we drove up it looked like there was nobody there, but ventured on to the reception. Here we were met by a very friendly and helpful couple who had just taken over the lodge from the old owners. It was obvious from their discussion with us that the previous owners had not left the business with the best intentions and also messed up the advance reservations. However the new owners were working with booking.com to sort it out.
So we booked in and stayed for our one night and they honoured the original credit card used to pay for the accommodation, no fuss and no extra cost. For new owners they handled the situation well and we believe they deserve the chance to turn this place around. It has a great setting, nestled in the hill below the red cliffs and views over the lake. So we can see why some of the early reviewers really enjoyed staying here.
The rooms although basic were clean and comfortable and everything was working so we enjoyed our one night. As we left early in the morning, they had no problem us just leaving the keys in the door.

Lucky escape

Booked to stay here back in October via booking.com and the full amount for the room was taken despite saying it would only be a deposit. Was not so bothered as was only going to have to pay it anyway.
A few weeks before we were due to go we had an email from booking.com saying the booking had been cancelled due to the company no longer being in business. I emailed the property and after a week got a few word reply saying that it was not true. We decided it was a shame as it looked a lovely unique place to stay but we couldn't take the risk as we would be travelling with a 4 year old so we requested a refund through booking.com which thankfully came through. After reading some of the other reviews if we had booked it direct I don't think we would have been so lucky.
We then managed to get in somewhere else. We drove past while we were there to have a look and there was absolutely no sign of it being in business...no cars parked at the lodges, not even a sign saying it's name to confirm you are in the right place. I don't know what is going on with management here but I would avoid like the plague until it gets itself in order, or better still changes altogether.
