We stayed for 4 nights at the Senetan and had an overall good experience.
We did have to dial our expectations down a bit though.
First of the resort is located almost 40 min outside of Ubud. There is a shuttle service going into town three times a day (at 10 am, 2 pm and 6 pm), pick up is at 3, 5 and 9 pm. You have to book the shuttle in advance to guarantee a seat for yourself, so no spontaneous bar hopping or late nights unless you organize your own transport.
Secondly the hotel is practically locate IN the jungle which comes with a whole range of friendly neighbors such as frogs, lizards, bugs and ants. Tons of ants. Which is to be expected but not helped by the fact that food served in the villa does not get cleaned up right away and rather sits until the Next time the cleaning service comes through which is inconsistent at best. Some days it got cleaned while we were at breakfast, some days while we were out and one day I had to call the front desk and ask for two days with of dishes to be taken away.
Generally people would come in every evening when we where at dinner and get the bed ready, unfortunately they forgot to lock the door again several times so we made sure to lock all of our valuables in the safe provided.
Breakfast was included in the price and you get a wide selection from local to continental to Australien and American. All served with fresh fruit, juice and coffee or tea.
An afternoon tea was also included and was served with a little local “cake”, usually a fried or baked banana.
Dinner was tricky for us, the quality of the food was of verying degree and the burger patty had several bones in it.
The service was always friendly but communication sometimes difficult.
Our main downsides where the bed ( the metal springs dig into you no matter which way you turn), the cleanliness (sheets and towels had stains, the windows were smudged and the pool and it’s pumped didn’t get cleaned everyday, despite being outside and attracting all kinds of wildlife and plants and the room got cleaned very inconsistently) and little missing amenities ( the water from the mini bar was free but didn’t get refilled everyday, there was no drying rack to put your swimming trunks and bikini or pool towels, the lounge chairs were not reclinable and had to pillow or mattress so it was very uncomfortable after a short period of time.
We loved the quiet garden and beautiful pool, the overall peacefulness and jungle feel of the hotel.
For maybe a small getaway the Senetan is a great place but we would probably not stay for an extended period of time again.
