5 day Stay

by jerman00

Was in Houston for the OTC conference and stayed at this property for the first time. I enjoyed the location and the self-parking. Room was above average and the bed was nice. Bathroom was a bit small. The hotel seemed dated and the bar area in the lobby not very exciting. Would not likely stay here again if other similar hotels were available (but OTC week fills up all hotels in Houston).

Great staff, excellent location but an older property with bad wifi

by utfiero

Summary: Accommodating staff in an older property. We spent a week at this property and were very pleased with the service.

Check-in: Friendly valet and bellhop. Bellman was very efficient. At checkin, Dominica was very proactive in helping us. She was familiar with the Marriott BonVoy mobile check-in and noted my request to combine three reservations that comprised the whole week.

Room: Room 1518 was a small suite king room. The sitting room included a small bar counter with wet sink, mini coffee maker, safe, and mini refrigerator. Sitting room also had a writing desk, desk chair, lamps, cabinet with LG TV on top, full sized couch, coffee table, side chair, and an end table. The bedroom contained a large king sized bed, two nightstands, and a cabinet with an LG TV. The “living room” was separated from the bedroom by double pocket doors, creating a nice open space with the door open. The ceilings were higher than normal and gave the combined rooms an airy, elevated feel. Carpet was an older brown carpet with a nice pattern. But the carpet was not new.

Bathroom: Excellent functional bathroom. Fantastic counter space with granite counters. Under the counter is highly useful storage across from the closet. Nice tub with shower. Water pressure on the 15th floor was not great. The position of the door in comparison with the commode was not convenient. Good quality towels. Excellent hair dryer with extra-long cord.

Bed: good king bed with good linens and pillows.

Sleep quality/noise: excellent. Occasionally we heard some hallway noise in the early evenings, but at night we heard very little once we closed the pocket doors separating the living room from the bedroom and the door separating the bathroom from the bedroom.

Housekeeping: Excellent housekeeping service. We left a tip each day ($2 or $3) and our housekeeper went above and beyond. She even made a little art for us with towels and soaps.

Overall staff attitude: The staff was friendly and very pleasant to interact with.

Dining: On site bar and dining. We didn’t have the opportunity to eat at the restaurant.

Concierge lounge: We sampled the evening snacks in the concierge lounge. The evening snacks consisted of salty snack mix, stale crackers, and a variety of cheeses. We left too early to get breakfast in the lounge but snagged a bagel one morning.

Pool and gym: Pool is tiny and water looked murky. Didn’t have time to use the gym but it looked ok.

Wifi: Worst Hotel wifi we’ve experienced. Very slow even when selecting premium 5mb service. Also, the network kept kicking us off on our phones, tablets, and laptop.

Parking: Valet or self-park. Self-parking is $25+tax/day. We consistently had trouble using our room key to operate the garage access. Fortunately, the staff was consistently responsive when we called to exit the garage.

Tips: (1) Ask for a room on the back of the hotel away from Loop 610 if you want maximum peace and quiet. (2) There is a Whole Foods about 3 minutes away from the hotel. (3) Tons of great restaurants are within a five minute drive. We found a gem offering Mexican seafood called x just up Westheimer outside of Loop 610. (4) Our stay did not update with Marriott. Had to complete a missing stay request.
