On Andros Island in the Bahamas, Small Hope Bay Lodge offers all-inclusive rates and oceanfront cabins. It also offers a rare opportunity to disconnect — televisions, phones and Internet aren’t available. Instead, you’ll find water sports, such as snorkeling and diving; kids’ programming, such as a children’s club and complimentary babysitting services in the evenings; and guided nature tours. The resort is located near Androsia Batik, a fabric factory (where tours and lessons are available) and outlet store.

Good vacation spot

by ak_1357

We had a great family vacation. Loved everything from playing ping pong and checkers with the kids, to the laid back family atmosphere. Great place to unplug and chill. A couple minor issues.... I wish they had separate snorkeling trips to the diving trips. The emphasis is clearly on diving and the snorkeling is really an afterthought. The second issue (which I don't really fault the resort for) was when I got home, I was covered in bites from sand fleas that took about 2-3 weeks to go away. I'd never had anything so bad before and it put a real damper on an otherwise good experience.

Perfect place for scuba/snorkeling centered family vacation... with a caveat

First of all, if you are looking for a marble tiled bathroom, complimentary bathrobe, 250 channels with HBO, or an extensive wine menu and if you don't really want to talk to other guests while on vacation, this is probably not the place for you. But if you are like us and are happy with rustic accommodations that are clean and comfortable, and enjoy meeting new people, then please continue reading.

OK so imagine summer camp on pristine water with twice daily UNBELIEVABLE snorkeling or scuba diving, ultra friendly and helpful staff and delicious food and you'll start to get an idea of what to expect here. Rooms are very simple but comfortable. You can ask for AC to be turned on but we never needed it in late April. Fans were plenty and I even required an extra blanket one night. Lunch and dinner are all family style where the chef prepares buffet style fresh and delicious food. Have picky eaters? No worries, they are happy to prepare something just for them. There is so much history and tradition at this family owned lodge and we enjoyed every bit of it! We ate dinner and lunch on the outdoor patio where all guests mingled and got to know one another and relived the events of the day. Again, if you don't like people this may not be the place for you! At the end of dinner everyone watched the awesome videos taken by the dive instructors of the day's dive and snorkel trips and learned about their coral propagation program. You left truly feeling like part of the family. It was such an amazing experience. We made some great friends during our trip and have already scheduled our return trip next year. Most of their guests are return visitors which really says a lot. I cannot recommend this place enough.
