After three years of researching and patiently waiting for this resort to open, we finally booked our annual family trip at the newly constructed (2018) South Bay Inn and resort. The cost was very reasonable and actually perfect for staying during the last major holiday of the summer (Labor Day). We booked well in advance, so we were locked in with all of our wants and needs. We stayed in the penthouse or PH if you get on the elevator. Everyone that did not stay was like oooouuu to the penthouse, or how is up there. IT WAS AMAZING! If felt like were in the building by ourselves with no noise or detractions. We wanted an ocean view on the top floor and that’s exactly what we received. My wife woke up every morning and took a breathtaking pic of the water, my children loved staying on the balcony and watching the waves from afar.
The hot and ready breakfast every morning got our day started! They brought out food every 5 seconds and always was there to help clean up your spot. You had the choice of sitting inside or watching the sun on the balcony (have sunglasses as the sun is right there). The water park was amazing and my daughter loved the slide even though she didn’t go down it. My wife and I did and it was a blast! There was always an employee to assist with any needs and the location from the resort to the beach was perfect. There were daily things to do for the kids which was awesome, even though they cost it was cool and something to do. We did the tie die shirts and my kids had a lot of fun painting those. Good thing is for the daily activities you can charge it to your room or pay now. Great conversation with the house keepers as they were efficient and waited until we were out of our room or politely knocked so they could finish their tasks for the day. Now for the most amazing part *drum roll* THE KITCHEN AND ITS ACCESSORIES! We had a full kitchen with two burners and every utensil you need. We went to Food Lion and purchased a few groceries and cooked spaghetti and tacos (saved a few dollars). They had frying pans, spatulas, knives, forks strainer, shoot you name it they had it. I was very impressed with that and gad I chose that room. Also we had two different TVs, so the kids could be in the bedroom area watching their shows and my wife and I in the living room area watching ours.
The balcony had bars on them and I would have preferred the glass see through as you have to stand up to view things instead of being able to sit. Looking through the vertical bars kind of mad you dizzy and I didn’t like the kids standing on their tippy toes to look over the main railing. Also, the PH floor is the most luxurious but we didn’t have our own vending machine. There was a cut out on the PH floor of where they were located on the other floors and outlets just now machines, which was disappointing. There was a private vendor who had a machine to sell snacks on the lobby floor, only thing is the machine didn’t take cash and there was no one there to assist since it was a third party machine. I kept ones just for that on the late night but used my card (even though the prices were highway robbery). Also I didn’t like was the air condition unit. It said on a sticker on the glass “Air Conditioner will not operate if balcony door it open” Huh it sure did and what it did was create condensation causing water to chip the paint. That needs to be fixed as it will cause more harm than good. The last thing was our bathroom didn’t have a tub but an annoying standing shower. The bench feature was nice but water got on the floor since it was only 4-6 inches elevation from the bathroom floor.
It was an amazing stay and if you decide to book with them early, do not book through a 3rd party but book directly through them and get the breakfast including! If you can afford it get the suites with the full kitchen and stay on the 19th floor aka PH lol. I will be going back yearly now and know what room I will recommend each time lol well maybe switch it up and get a tub next time. Please, please, please stay here as it was a magical experience and they are located right next to the beach and down the street from the strip. Also a little insider tip, they take care of you (financially) if you book early!
*** As always I have no affiliation with the location I am writing a review for it is my honest opinion and all my reviews I keep it 100%. Please feel free to message me if you have additional questions***
Rooms and hotel amenities were incredible. Lucky we were to find this hotel. We stayed at the Jr suite Ocean front. Nice to have breakfast with that view every day, great pool area, great sunrise spot, close by the beach, good restaurant and awesome bartender. Would stay in this hotel again in a heart beat! Perfect vaca!
Cons: hotel towels are not soft, housekeeping could vacuum floor q 2-3 days not 4. Could have automatic door in the breakfast area as its hard to carry a plate and a drink and still need to open those heave doors in order to sit outside.
Parking/drop off should not allow people to block the traffic. People were parking on the right side of the hotel entrance which blocks the flow.
All the cons very minor and didn't change my rate of 5 star. whos is perfect?
Located on the hotel’s first floor, the water park includes two waterslides, a lazy river, a splash pad with water features, three hot tubs and a swimming pool. All but the swimming pool are covered; during cooler weather, the hotel encloses the entire pool deck so the swimming pool and water park are “indoors.” The lazy river and all hot tubs have a maximum depth of 3 feet, while the splash pad has a maximum depth of 1 foot. The swimming pool ranges in depth from 3 feet to 5 feet.
The pool deck contains many lounge chairs, but these can go fast when the hotel experiences high capacity. Towel service is provided, and bathrooms are located by the waterslides. No coolers or glass are permitted in the pool area. Water park/pool hours are 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Just a short walk behind the hotel, there is plenty of beach to enjoy. Visitors are welcome to bring their own chairs and umbrellas with them. It’s important to note that between Memorial Day and Labor Day, no tents or other shading devices are allowed. They are permitted any time otherwise.
On the lobby floor, a game room contains a Ping-Pong table, a pool table and a foosball table. All are free to use.
The hotel hosts a variety of kids' activities from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Some take place in the activity room located next to the game room, while others occur by the swimming pool. These include arts and crafts, games, and face painting, among others. A schedule of activities is posted in the elevators and at the activity room.
Note: This is not a drop-off kids' club; an adult is required to stay with children at all times.
The hotel’s onsite restaurant, Captain B’s services a complimentary hot breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. daily. Menu items include fruit, cereals, breakfast breads, breakfast meats, eggs, breakfast potatoes and more.
The restaurant also serves lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. The menu features appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and entrees like grilled Atlantic salmon, fish and chips, and Angus beef sirloin. In addition, there is a happy hour each day from 4 to 7 p.m.
Parties of eight or more will see an 18-percent gratuity automatically added to their bill.
Take out, poolside and room service are available. Take-out orders incur a 10-percent service charge, while poolside and room service incur a 20-percent service charge. Poolside and room service require a $20 minimum order.
Perks 2 Coffee House
Open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. during peak season and from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the off-season, this coffee bar serves Starbucks coffee along with pastries and sweet treats. Other beverages are also available.
In the pool area by the lazy river, a tiki bar offers beverage and snack service on a seasonal schedule.
Soft drink and snack machines are located on the following floors: 4, 6, 9, 12, 15 and 18. In addition, there is a self-serve vending station on the lobby floor that offers drinks and snacks.

The Best Time to Visit
As a beach destination, the South Bay Inn & Suites is quite crowded during the summer months. Not surprisingly, this will also be the time with the highest rates. If planning a summer trip to this hotel, book early—at least 60 days ahead, if not more—for the best availability of room choices. For more availability and the best rates, plan to come during the hotel’s off-season, which kicks off after Labor Day and ends around Valentine’s Day. November through February offer the lowest rates. Check the hotel website for current specials and rates; also, the hotel sends out a periodic newsletter that includes sales information.
If traveling by air, the closest airport is Myrtle Beach International Airport, which is just 3.8 miles away from the South Bay Inn & Suites. The hotel does not provide any shuttle service; a one-way ride-share is approximately $12. If traveling by car, Myrtle Beach is easily reached via U.S Highway 501 from the west and U.S Highway 17 from the north and south.
While guests may find many things to do near the hotel, the best way to get around Myrtle Beach is by car. If not arriving by car, visitors should get a rental car.
If parents find themselves with an evening alone, head to the hotel restaurant for dinner. Be sure to ask for a balcony table so you can dine to the sounds of the rolling waves. Afterward, head outside for a walk along the beach or a stroll down the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk.
