Terrific value for money

by MancJRG

What a lovely gem of a hotel in the perfect location - terrific value for money. We booked this hotel via booking.com and had great communicationprior to our arrival, they even arranged airport pick up service which was brilliant. This small hotel is in a wonderful location for shops, restaurants and short walk to the beach. The Bintang Supermarket is a few minutes walk away if you need any provisions. As the hotel is located down a small driveway, you escape all the noise of the traffic on the roads.

Hotel staff are very friendly and happy to help with any enquiries. There are beach towels, iron and hair dryer available from reception at your request. We had a poolside room which was great value for money and ticked all the boxes - large comfy bed, nice shower in wet room, small kitchenette with fridge, tv and Wi-Fi in room.

Breakfast was provided in a local cafe at the end of the driveway - you present a voucher from the hotel and get a selection of freshly made breakfasts with fruit juice or coffee (I loved the American pancakes and fruit).

I'd love to return to this hotel on our next trip to Bali.

Not particularly 'swish' but for AU$40 a night very good value!

I guess that in reviewing anything the main issue is ‘value’; are you getting good value for your dollar? At this hotel the answer, to me, is yes, definitely. Just how much can you expect for AU$40 a night? I had asked for, and was fortunate to get, a poolside room. The room has a little verandah with table and chair. The room itself is not huge but perfectly adequate with king-size bed, firm but that’s ok. I note that all the linen is a slightly beige colour- I don’t think it started that way, just well-used, but clean! I don’t think any linen, sheets or towels, was changed in 5 days?
There is a small dressing table area with stool and a small ‘kitchenette’ area with sink, fridge and the world’s slowest boiling kettle and a very small selection of tea and coffee (which was not replenished in my 5 night stay but they were happy to provide more when asked). The bathroom has a shower, plenty of good-pressure hot water. Alas no shower screen so, following the shower, almost the entire bathroom was soaked which is a little inconvenient. TV has about 40 channels including the usual world news ones. I felt that the room would be ‘lifted’ with a new lick of paint, it showing a few ‘bruises’ of the ages! The pool (8m x 3.5m) garden courtyard has a small number of lounges- can get a bit congested sometimes. The hotel is set well back from the main road so it is very quiet and it is really well located in a busy part of Seminyak (30 – 60 minutes from the airport depending on traffic) with lots of quality restaurants in walking distance. Another good thing is that it’s about 150 metres down from the big Bintang Supermarket for anything you might want- this is a landmark that all taxi drivers know… to get you home- they may well not know where the Vansari Hotel is. I belatedly accepted to pay for the $7/day breakfast which is served in the ‘Bloom Restaurant’ nearby on the main road. They offer an a la carte choice of about 5 things with tea (black) OR coffee OR orange juice although the restaurant offers a much wider choice to other paying customers. Yes, you can’t expect much for $7… I wasn’t really that taken with what was on offer and instead took a 15 minute stroll to the ‘Shelter’ café for great breakfast choices (lots of healthy ones too) each morning.
Remember, arriving in Bali and taking a taxi- come out of immigration/customs, turn left take a lift up to ‘departures’ on the top floor and take a meter taxi (in Bali always ask: “is this a ‘meter’ taxi”- I think they’re all fitted with meters but some drivers are inclined not to use them and instead want to charge a better (for them!) fare!) from one dropping off a departing passenger, lots cheaper than the ‘official’ airport taxi rank at ‘arrivals’. Taxi to Seminyak is about $7-8.
Quite happy with the Vansari- not ‘swish’ but good value and obviously popular as a consequence.
