Finally, a resort with two children's menus, one for "little appetites" and one for "big appetites." That makes life easier for parents who won't have to endure eye rolling from their 11-year-old who feels mortified when ordering from a menu decorated with clown faces and balloons. The tween options in Papagayo, the main restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, are presented on a mini-surfboard. The choices acknowledge that tweens have food preferences that go beyond spaghetti and burgers. Those items are available along with grilled mahi mahi (very good) and steak at prices and portions a bit less than those for adults. For both groups, fruit is an option for dessert along with ice cream and cookies.
The tortilla chips, served with guacamole and salsa, at Papagayo are terrific. We found it hard not to fill-up on these. At Papagayo children also receive an activity and coloring book with information about the resort.
Di Mare, the resort's signature restaurant, presents a mix of Italian seafood. The homemade spaghetti with seafood and garlic proved so good that we ordered it two nights in row, once at the restaurant and once in our villa. Although room service fare isn't cooked by Di Mare, on a night when we were particularly "mellow" - as in too lazy to get dressed for dinner, we asked room service if they would deliver the entrÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂée to us in our villa. And of course, they did "con mucho gusto." That's the Four Seasons special service.
On a terrace near one of the pools, Congo's Bar & Grill, open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., serves fish tacos, tuna salad and other somewhat lighter entrees than those at Papagayo. Congo's also provides pool service of sandwiches and paninis.
At the resort, children under 5 eat free. Dining rooms have high-chairs.
