All About the Extras
Once you arrive and that first rum punch is placed in your hands, you know you're in good hands. This extends to the front desk, room service, and those energetic pool directors who get you into the water to do some aerobics.

The landscaped grounds are gorgeous with numerous tall palms, tropical flowers, and the addition of flamingoes, herons, and turtles are a nice touch, especially for the children. There's also yoga on the beach, tennis courts, a fitness facility, and spa that offers massages.

The beach areas at all Iberostar resorts are designated topless and the large number of European travelers who visit the Dominican Republic make the likelihood very high for your children witnessing topless sunbathing. The pool areas require swimsuits, but occasionally an enthusiastic sunbather may overlook the signs (If that happens, simply notify guest services and they will communicate appropriately with the topless guest).

The Art of Smart Timing
The Dominican Republic rivals Mexico as one of the cheapest travel destinations in the Caribbean, especially if you can head down here after mid-April when the low season fares start to kick in. Be sure to look into charter companies like TNT Vacations in Boston and Liberty Travel in New York, since Iberostar, like many all-inclusives have fares that might be cheaper when you combine with a charter flight. There's a three-night minimum at the resort.

For Mom and Dad
The resort does offer babysitting. If you desperately need to have a meal outside your resort, head to a favorite local joint, a seaside shack in El Cortecito called Captain Cook. Dinner for two will run about $50. Better yet, go golfing at the Punta Cana Resort. Golf Magazine named their La Cana course the number one course in the Caribbean. Fourteen of the holes have ocean views with four of the holes right on the ocean's edge.

The disco doesn't open until 11:00 p.m., with its mix of classic R&B and electronica. Hard Rock is a decent sports bar and there's a casino with slots, blackjack, and roulette if you want to try to win back the money you spent on the trip.

The Iberostar Grand Hotel, located in the same complex, is an adults-only hotel with five restaurants to choose from. Adults at the Bavaro can enjoy a dinner at any of these restaurants for a slight upcharge.
