We booked our travel through Continental travel and planned to stay 5/30/11 - 6/4/11. The hotel staff was friendly at check-in, but later realized they failed to tell us we needed reservations if we planned to eat at the only a la carte restaurant more +open that night. The drinks seemed watered down and none of the bartenders seemed friendly that day, but no big deal. It was later at the buffet when reality hit. The staff was rude and the food was like nothing I had ever had at an all-inclusive. My kids even said the food was "bad", and that's coming from my 5 yr old boy who will eat anything. I even tried tipping to improve the situation but that got me nothing in return.

The 2nd day, we went snorkeling down the beach ~100 yards to Cozumelenia (the Melia gets too much seaweed from the current) which was great. Got back and the lunch was as bad as the dinner from the night before, so we decided to go downtown to look around and have dinner somewhere there. After talking it over a few times, we decided to call Continental the following morning to see what they could do for us. They told us they could move us to the Iberostar for $100, so we jumped on it. We stayed at Iberostar for the remainder of the trip, had some decent food and drinks, but the best part was that the staff was friendly and the service was good. That was the best $100 I've ever spent!
