Too Much Pressure to Check Out

by gksohn

My husband and I stayed at the Wedgewood for one night in November during our trip to Vancouver to celebrate our first anniversary. Overall our experience was fine except for a mishap at the end of our stay that really left a bad taste in our mouths.

We requested a quiet room upon checking in as I am a light sleeper but the room we got was facing a major street and there was a loud concert going on that night. Besides the noise, our room was excellent with complimentary bottled water, cookies, and a thoughtful box of chocolates (presumably for our anniversary). The next morning we enjoyed a couples massage at the Wedgewood Spa that was pricey but worthwhile for a special occasion. Our massage ended at 11 am and checkout was at 12 pm so within that hour after our massage we were busy taking showers and packing.

Within that one hour, THREE separate members of the housekeeping team pounded on our door to ask us when we were leaving. This was a huge turn-off for me as our official check out time was not until noon and each time I had to put on a robe or stop my packing to answer the door. By the third time we truly felt like their message was loud and clear: GET OUT because we need your room for the next guest. For a five star hotel, I certainly expected much more consideration and courtesy towards their guests. If your check out time is noon, don’t hassle your guests to leave starting from 11 am. My husband and I will certainly NOT be returning and we would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone who wishes for a peaceful, welcoming stay.

Good hotel stellar location

We visit Vancouver regularly and often stay at the Wedgewood. While not especially extravagant, all the right amenities are made available. Especially appreciate the quality beds and pillows. Turndown service includes a box of chocolates! Room size for a King bed room is good. The bathroom is not very large but well-appointed. We will return.
