Overview

A favorite of families because of its pool and waterfront location in Puerto Ayora, the Solymar is a great place to start or finish your trip to the Galapagos. Opt for one of the 17 waterfront rooms in the Main Building, equipped with king-sized bed or two twins. Be on the lookout for marine iguanas that sunbathe on the edge of the swimming pool, and the pelicans, herons and frigates that also like the locale, since it’s next door to a fish market.

Great location

by Alison B

This hotel had great friendly staff, along with the resident sea lion, Wendy. The rooms were good with a balcony overlooking the water. We sat watching the fisherman bring the daily catch in. The animals that are everywhere, iguanas, pelicans, frigates and of course the sea lions. Wendy can be found on a sun lounger early morning. The hotel is close to all the good restaurants and bars and the pier is close by to watch the small sharks swimming at night. The buffet breakfast was good and the appetisers we had were excellent. A great place to stay when visiting the galapagos.

Beautiful, Friendly Hotel in a Great Location

by GrammaandPappa

We stayed here 3 nights traveling with a Friendly Planet Tour group. We were also celebrating our 50th Wedding Anniversary here. Renato Perez, owner/manager, made sure it was special for us with a card, gifts, letter and delicious dessert. The staff here is very kind and helpful. They could answer all of our questions or just visit with us. The hotel is centrally located on the main street, close to restaurants (and the hotel has it's own delicious restaurant as well), close to the dock, and close to many little shops. The hotel seems to be "home" to a friendly sea lion, blue footed booby birds and marine iguanas. The views from the rooms are gorgeous. It's so nice to sit outside and just watch the view, did I say it was GORGEOUS? Yes, it is. Hope to go back some day.
