Fantastic location (we were going to The Globe and it was just around the corner, less than 5 minutes' walk). Staff were very friendly and helpful. Location was safe and secure, especially at night. The breakfast was really good. The price was fair given the location. The only (very small) thing that could have been better, the room had some rubbish left by the last occupants. Other than that, it was a 5* stay.

Also, the public transport links are very good and nothing is more than a 10 minute walk away or a taxi drive.

Great location - Poor customer service and security

We spent three nights at the Southwark (Bankside). The lift was being update when we arrived. we had to carry our 22KG bags up three short flights of stairs to get to our rooms. We were on the end of a two week holiday. The staff offered no help carrying our bags. Front desk staff was friendly but lazy. The interior doors in the hotel to restrict access were left unlocked or bypassed. There was a slot in the door for your room key but the door was just left unlocked. this would allow anyone to wander around the hotel unmonitored. I never saw the staff leave the front desk. I was concerned about the poor secuity. Our room smelled strongly of air freshener when we check in. Later we discovered why. There was a mild mildew or mold smell in the room. The room appeared very clean when we arrived.
