Billings Farm and Museum

Route 12 & River Road, Woodstock, 05091, VT

It’s no exaggeration to say that dairy farming in Vermont traces its ancestry back to this working farm in the village of Woodstock, which bred the Jersey cows that jumpstarted the industry in the 19th century. Now it’s an excellent living history museum preserved by the National Park Service, full of interactive exhibits where kids can learn about farm life both in the 1800s and today.

In addition to the herd of Jerseys, there are horses, goats, and other animals — along with plenty of human fascination in the recreated farmhouse and exhibits of farming implements. For a true meet-and-greet with Vermont’s most famous farm animal, visit during the annual Cow Appreciation Day each summer.

Billings Farm & Museum is located next to Marsh – Billings – Rockefeller National Historic Park, another notable attraction worth exploring with kids while in Woodstock, Vermont.
