Mercado Central de Atarazanas

Mercado Central de Atarazanas

Calle Atarazanas 10, Malaga

Enter the 14th century gate to an abundant city market offering fresh fish, meat, and produce. Purchase Malaga specialties like jamon, chorizo, oxtail or octopus. Try a custard apple, Malaga raisin or a refreshing spritzer of red wine mixed with Sprite or lemonade. Play Russian roulette with shishito peppers (some are hot, some are not).

Visit with the Food Sherpas, who explain the culture and help you make the most of your time in Malaga by highlighting the best of local gastronomy. They’ll show you the meat spread Spaniards devour on bread, help you appreciate the differences in jamon, and introduce you to exquisite olive oils.

Open Monday through Saturday 8 am to 2 pm.

Things to Know

Fresh fish is not available on Mondays because fishermen don’t fish on Sundays. Visit around closing time for a good deal.

Small bars and restaurants are next to busy stalls offering samples.

No parking; public transportation is best.
