Just outside of Naples is the town of Caserta, which is home to the Royal Palace, built for a Bourbon king in the late 1700s. Meant to rival the palace of Versailles outside of Paris, the palace is an imposing collection of marble and al fresco paintings. Tour the palace apartments before heading out to the Royal Park, which features a 23-mile aqueduct that ends with an impressive waterfall at the Aeolus Fountain. Bicycle rentals are available to explore the park, and carriages are available to give entire families tours.
