Family Activities:

Smithsonian Institution (The Castle)

Smithsonian Institution (The Castle)

1000 Jefferson Drive, Washington, 20013-7012, DC

This museum, the largest of its kind in the world, is comprised of 19 specialty museums whose subjects include African Art, Natural History, American History, Air and Space, and Arts and Industries, along with a slew of different art galleries, gardens and even its own zoo!

The average family could most likely spend a week wandering throughout the buildings and still not see the entirety of what the Smithsonian Institution has to offer. And while you may not get to see everything on your first go around, your children will have an absolute blast, and are sure to learn more than they — and you — ever thought possible. Give this one at least a full day on your itinerary.

Popular Smithsonian museums include the National Air & Space Museum, the National Museum of American History, the National Museum of Natural History and the National Zoo.

There’s not much at the castle itself, but it does provide some history about the Smithsonian and its many related museums. If you have young kids, make sure they meet the robot!
