Almost Perfect...

by Dlit99

My wife and I stayed here for one night on our way to see the condors. The room was VERY nice and even had a hot tub (not that we used it). It has some beautiful grounds with alpacas, llamas, and horses and a little pond.

The restaurant was quite nice (food was delicious) but they charged a ridiculous amount of money ($7 US dollars) for a tiny bottle of flat water. Of all the places we stayed, including other Belmonds within Peru, this was the most outrageous expense. The breakfast was also just so-so: a buffet that had some minimal items. It was only after the waiter heard us talking about the minimal choices (and having eaten what was available) that he informed us that we could order off a menu as well (a bit too little too late).

The other thing we didn't love about this place was that it was a VERY far walk from our room to the dining area (up hill at high altitude). In the dark, despite the flashlight provided, it was very challenging.

Finally, when we were ready to leave the following morning, I called to have our bags brought up and, after waiting 30 minutes, I/we finally gave up and went up to the main building for breakfast and to complain. Much to my dismay, the person who was supposed to get our bags was busy spending the entire time waiting for a single guest to check out as that guest had many complaints. Couldn't the staff member have unloaded the bags and left them in the front to come get ours rather than sit there and wait for the aggravated guest?

Anyway, overall the hotel room (each its own little house) was very nice and the staff was friendly. If it weren't for the few small items I mentioned, it may have been a 5...but given those, I think a 4 (4.5) rating is appropriate.

Great Hotel

It is a great hotel, located on a beautiful place, no noise even during the day, so you can completely rest and forget about the city. Great Idea on no having TV on the rooms so you will disconnect of everything and enjoy as much as posible, great things to do as fishing, feeding the Llama and Alpacas, great food, very tasty little high the prices but it is ok. The crew is very helpful always thinking on your happiness and confort. The only thing can evaluate is to have some "nets" on the windows of each room so if you like to open during the night no insects will enter to the room.
