Bird Rock Hotel combines the best of both worlds: a beautiful, historic exterior, combined with a comfortable, clean, and modern interior. You’ll enjoy the hotel’s style and charm, welcoming and personal atmosphere, and convenience of being close to the island’s best attractions. You’ll enjoy sleeping soundly in a custom bed outfitted with organic linens, then waking up to a gourmet continental breakfast with eggs, fruit, yogurt, homemade scones, and more. Return to the hotel in the afternoon to munch on warm cookies, then pay a visit to the off-site heated indoor pool, sauna, and Jacuzzi.
There are only 15 rooms in the boutique hotel, every one of them different. Families will be able to spread out in style in the two-bedroom suite. All units are equipped with free Wi-Fi, as well as soft bathrobes and bath amenities. In many suites you’ll find a gas fireplace, jetted bathtub, and private balcony or patio.
On the island, you’ll find plenty to do, such as whale watching, ziplining, cycling, horseback riding, and other outdoor adventures. The restaurant scene is excellent also: you’ll find nearly two dozen places to eat within three blocks of the hotel. Ask the staff for recommendations or check Bird Rock Hotel’s website to find a list of favorite restaurants sorted by meal type.

This is a small (15 rooms) beautiful property within walking distance of the Harbor and downtown area. The property and grounds are immaculate, the staff is cordial and responsive, and the rooms are well appointed. While we booked a room with a private bath, some of the rooms share a bathroom. I'm basing my 3 star rating totally on my personal preferences. Our room was on the second floor, with a set of stairs to a small landing turn around to ascend a second set of steeper, narrow stairs. Trying to maneuver luggage up those stairs proved challenging to me; actually the second set was challenging to me without luggage. Since the room was very small, there was virtually no surface space (or closet) to put things. In other reviews I saw numerous comments about the gourmet continental breakfast. I'm not certain what's gourmet about a limited choice of fruit, yogurt, and juice. Healthy, yes; gourmet, I'm not so sure. It is really pretty, but I prefer something that better meets my needs.
The Bird Rock historic hotel is close to the ferry in Friday Harbor. We enjoyed our stay there and the people at the desk were friendly and helpful. Our first floor room had a seating area with a gas fireplace and a small fridge and sink, with a separate bedroom. We had a small private outside area with a hot tub. Breakfast, including freshly made scones, was pleasant in the front lobby area. Cookies and lemonade were available in the afternoons. It was not noisy at night since we were there at the end of the summer season.
